Lookin' On The Bright Side...

Just sat down and wrote out my electric bill for May/June. As I wrote out the check, it struck me that this was a rather small bill, proportionately, when compared to previous years and the start of summer. So I started flipping back through my checkbook, and had to flip back over a year before I found a month where we spent less on electricity...

Y'see, because the summer so far has been so pathetically below normal, we haven't been using the air conditioning at all. We typically see our electric bill double in July and August, with a steep increase in May and a gradual decline in September due to the cost of cooling our house. We have central AC, which is really nice from a comfort perspective - it also keeps the house free of pollen and dust from not having the windows open. But so far this year it has been turned on once, for an afternoon, back in May...

{Insert obligatory snark about Global Warming and "ZOMG TEH ICE CAPZ IZ MELTIN' AND TEH POLAR BEARZ IS DYIN'..."}

That is all.

My electric bill in the mail yesterday wass $199.38.
That inckuded about a week of +100 degree temps before I turned up the daytime thermostat to 80.

"Insert obligatory snark about Global Warming"
Why?
Do you STILL not get that it DOESN'T mean it gets warm EVERYWHERE?
I recall a recent commenter of yours pointing that out to you - yet again - and you seemed to understand...
Warming/melting in the arctic, which is happening - the glacier/ice shelf data is clear - can screw weather patterns up to mean possibly blizzards in July in Boston and LA.
You've a good gun blog, one of my favorites. That doesn't mean you have to toe the "obligatory" naive gun blog line.

The simple fact that they've had to rename the phenomenom to "Global Climate Change" tells me one thing: They haven't the faintest clue what's going on.

It's even more tenuous to prove than man has anything more than a passing influence on the global climate. We're seeing the same melting of ice on MARS. Are SUVs responsible for that?

When these fuckers start passing laws that are going to directly impact my livelihood - i.e. start taxing me for "carbon credits" and other Ponzi-type schemes, I reserve the right to mock accordingly.

There's a helluva lot we don't know, yet these buffoons are acting like it's the end of the world and ZOMG let's all live in caves to prevent this from happening.

I'd say a helluva lot more of it is raw cynicism than naivete. We've been through this cycle before, about 30 years ago - read up on the "Coming Ice Age"...

There's a lot more study that needs to be performed before we need to act. Any time someone says "WE MUST DO THIS NOW", I suspect their motives - and that's just as true for the Patriot Act as it is for the Stimulus as it is for Cap & Trade for Global Warming...
