Friday Gun Pr0n #124

It's finally here! Time to unveil the newest addition to the G. armory:

Smith & Wesson Model 13-3

Those that have a familiarity with the S&W numbering will recognize this as a fixed-sight .357 Magnum revolver. The discerning eye will note the 3" heavy barrel and associate this with the FBI of the 1980s. It's got a few custom touches, notable the front and rear sights, which have been replaced with an orange ramp in the front and white notch in the rear. It makes for a nice contrast that should allow for rapid target acquisition (range report next week).

This is now my fifth .357 Magnum revolver, joining the Snubbie from Hell™, Colt Lawman Mark III, S&W Model 19, and Ruger Security Six. The Model 19 is a kissin' cousin to the Model 13, with the major difference being adjustable sights on the 19 and fixed on the 13. This particular Model 13 has the 3" barrel, a round butt, and a heavy barrel, as well as the aforementioned custom sights, setting it far enough apart from the 4" barrel, square butt Model 19 to warrant the addition.

Assuming I can find a suitable holster for it, it may very well join the rotation as a carry gun. If only I knew someone who carried a model 13...

That is all.

I. Hate. You.

Great gun, I was looking at Marko's and drooling at the shoot. Nice find.

If you hate me now, you definitely don't want to know what I paid for it...

I miss my old 3" Model 13 -- got it on a straight swap for a Taurus 4", but I traded it away for rent money many years back.

Of coure, now I've replaced it with a 3" M65 and a 3" M10 for a spare, so it's all good. {grin}

Sweet.

Please let us know if you find a suitable holster for it. I have been looking for a decent holster for my 3" Model 60 (J frame) for some time now, and other than nylon or a few open-bottomed leather holsters designed for 2" snubbies I am not happy with my choices. The nylon is cheap junk (IMHO) and the snubbie holsters look ridiculous with an inch of barrel poking out from their bottoms (I think this might interfere with the draw a little).

Nice addition to the family.

I have a M13-2. It's similar to yours except mine has a 2.5" barrel and bobbed hammer. I use a photo of it as my Icon. It carries very well in a IWB holster.

No doubt I'll be even more pissed when I find out what a deal you got. Somehow, they always elude me. Sigh...

Mikee,

I see a metric butt-ton of 3" J-frame holsters on eBay. (At least comepared to 3" K-frame holsters.)

Not currently being the owner of a J-frame (and if I did, it would be 2"), I don;t pay much attention to them, but I note that some of them are leather with closed muzzles.

Most of the time, mine rides in a DeSantis Speed Scabbard, with a Second Six speedloader pouch right in front of it.

If you're used to the IWB thing, I have a great Bianchi #3S "Pistol Pocket" for 3" K-frames I could let you test-drive.

That's a righteous boomstick, by the way...but you know my preferences.

I've got a Bianchi Pistol Pocket for a 3" K-frame. The M65 lives in it. Lovely rig.

I've been looking for a cheap paddle for the 11PM milk run to the Stop & Rob. (I've recently decided I want paddle rigs for all of my sidearms, so I can celebrate diversity without having to wear a belt. {snicker} So far the K-frame family is the holdout. . . and it's too hot for a shoulder rig covering garment.)
