Former 'Manson family' member denied parole
(CNN) -- Former "Manson Family" member Susan Atkins, who stabbed actress Sharon Tate to death more than 40 years ago and now is terminally ill, was denied parole Wednesday, prison officials said.
The parole hearing was the 13th for Atkins, 61, who is battling terminal brain cancer. Held at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla, California, the hearing stretched to more than nine hours.
There's a tear-jerker picture of Atkins in a hospital bed, tubes and wires encircling her like some sort of health care arachnid. I can only assume it's meant to play on our emotions - how could we possibly support keeping this sick woman behind bars; she's no danger to anyone; let her spend her final days at home rather than in jail.
Too. Fucking. Bad.
She's already gotten her compassion - she got a jail term rather than a date with the chair. Anything else this woman gets is a bonus. I'm getting mighty sick of this "oh, they're sick, they should be let out of prison" bullshit - the whole idea of prison is that it's something to avoid, not get out of when life becomes hard. The more "compassion" we show these monsters, the more monsters we create by our indifference to the victims.
You want compassion? Try not stabbing an eight-month-pregnant woman 16 times and then writing "PIG" in her blood on the door of her house. Excuse the fuck out of me if my "Give-A-Shit-ometer" reads zero on this one. Getting sick - even with a particularly nasty form of cancer - doesn't whitewash the brutality, cruelty, and outright inhumanity this woman has performed. She claims to have repudiated Manson - of course. Cancer and 40 years in prison will make you rethink things like bloody killing sprees.
But the sooner this woman dies - in prison - and we stop hearing these bleeding heart appeals, the better.
That is all.

Too bad the death penalty was held up as being "unconstitutional". Too bad it wasn't reinstated, then we could have a few Manson family graves to piss on.
Well...
I guess we still have more balls than the UK. Gives me a small bit to smile about this morning.
Jay,
I'm with you 500% on this one. Not only should that sub-human pile of fecal matter not be let out of prison, she should be denied all palliative care for her cancer. Let the b*tch suffer the ravages of intractible pain, and then let's have her rot into oblivion.
Do you think the public backlash over the release of the Lockerbie bomber had anything to do with the decision to not release Atkins?
hmm...brain cancer. Interesting. Say, didn't another killer of an innocent young woman die of that recently?
Too flippin' bad, Suzie!
I hope she dies in a lot of pain!
Now, if she used a plane to kill people, and letting her out would allow BP to get at some new oil fields in North Africa, that's a different story.
Hey, Scotland! This is how you do it. No wonder my ancestors bailed in the 1860's.
Manson and accomplices were murderers, not killers. English is a rich language. But there is not a single synonym for murder, i.e., to take with malice aforethought, an innocent life.
Those, who use "killer", when the crime in question is a murder, shift blame from the perpetrator to the victim. A killing can be justified, i.e., in self-defense. A murder is never justified.
Thus, to refer to Atkins as a "killer" is to suggest that what she did may have been justifiable. It wasn't. Her victims were innocent.
Those, who read these words, and conclude that this is "hair-splitting", simply don't get it. They are a reason that evil-doers prevail, because they help to deflect from murderers, the righteous anger of the law-abiding.
Murderers deserve no mercy.
How about we fly her to Libya?
As I recall, during her '93 parole hearing, she relayed the story of Sharon Tate beeging for her baby's life. I believe "stabby" Atkins is quoted saying, "I gave her no mercy" Sounds like a candidate for Obamacare to me.
This is the difference between criminal justice in the US and in the UK. The UK is currently indulging in the sort of criminal-coddling and victim-bashing that the US underwent in the 60's and early 70's, thus the Lockerbie bomber is turned loose on "compassionate" grounds; in the US, where we learned that criminal-coddling doesn't work, Susan Atkins will die in prison as she so richly deserves.
Were I ever given a chance to draft a Constitution or Bill of Rights, one of them would read:
The rights and welfare of a criminal shall never be held at a higher value than that of his victim.
You're Give-a-shit-o-meter is reading higher than mine. Mine's buried somewhere down around the negatives.
