And it's commenter and good friend sci-fi, who is down in DC for the 9/12 Protest March. He's braving the elements, smelly hippies (quote of the night from me: "I'm punching hippies with you in spirit as we speak!"), and the horrors of modern air travel to be part of this protest movement. I'm so proud of him.
He has promised to send pictures of the rally, and let me listen in for a few minutes as he met up with folks at Walter Reed Hospital. You remember Walter Reed, right? The Army hospital that came under fire during the Bush administration for not properly caring for wounded veterans. The hospital that's run by the government that is not properly caring for people in its care. The same government that wants to wrangle control of our health care out of the private sector and into the .gov domain...
Anyways, here's the rally at Walter Reed:
That's a good amount of people for a drizzly Friday night right there. He let me listen to the crowd, and boisterous chants of "USA! USA! USA!" could be heard loud and clear over the dying cell phone. Cars honked in support of the protestors essentially non-stop, and the crowd sounded animated but orderly; defiant, yet respectful.
I'll be posting updates as I receive them from sci-fi. The main rally is tomorrow, and I expect we'll have plenty more to say about it then (Comment from Mrs. G.: "Does this mean that sci-fi is your 'man on the scene'?"). Consider sci-fi the official MArooned correspondent, and we will continue to offer first-hand observation of the rally. I expect that the MSM coverage will be spotty, biased, and buried; this is my meager attempt to metaphorically stand in front of the tanks.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the range.
That is all.

Hey Jay, we're here in DC as well. Feel free to repost any pics me or the Mrs post to FB. I gotta disagree with your main man Sci-fi though. The hippy's are outnumbered by the patriots in DC, the hippies just don't know it yet. The patriots are undercover until tomorrow.
I'm here in DC, out and about wearing a Gadsden flag shirt, and my wife was wearing a "T.E.A. Taxed Enough Already" shirt. You would not BELIEVE the level of support we got! Horns honking with drivers giving us a thumbs up (yes, I checked which finger!). People waving and high-fiving as we passed. Probably 30 or more people who actually stopped us to tell us they are here for the rally. We walked for several blocks talking with a woman from California. Her husband had to work, so she flew out here alone.
Hung out at the Washington Monument for 15 minutes with a guy from TX who claimed to be a distant relative of Ted Kennedy. Met a nice older couple who DROVE here from AZ. The wife had hip replacement 3 weeks ago. Her husband fabricated special padding in their car to make her more comfortable for the ride. Met the editor of the North Carolina Freedom News (ncfreedom.us) and the guy from GOOOH.com. Cheryl finally started making a list, we talked to fellow patriots from TX, CT, NJ, CA, AZ, IN, MS, GA, VA, OH, WV, FL, NC, and SC in the space of less then 1 hour. And that's just the ones who happened to mention where they were from! Several people (mostly from red states) had mentioned they were afraid to wear anything outside the actuall rally that might "print" them as a conservative. They feared attacks from the Libs. Being from a state that's only slightly better then MA; I guess we are used to dealing with it and arent afraid.
If it sounds like I'm fired up it's because I am!
Tomorrow is going to be HUGE! As I've told several people, 9/12/09 will go down in history; one way or another. Either it will be remembered as the day Americans brought their country back from the brink of socialism; or it will be remembered as the beginning of the end. Either way, Cher and I will both be trying to post pics to FB as the event happens. Again, feel free to use any you want.
Oh, and David and family from FightingForLiberty are also here somewhere.
I didn't say y'all were outnumbered by hippies, just that they smell...
Thanks for representing the NE Bloggers, guys!!!
I really don't like this Glenn Beck 9/12 project idea. It sure felt nice that we were all united after 9/11 and all but that mindset led us down the road to crap like the PATRIOT Act (which was used to nail a sitting governor for prostitution), the REAL ID Act that never really came to be and never would have stopped the 9/11 hijackers, the TSA, and useless crap like another government LE agency like the DHS.
I much rather prefer our 9/11 9:20am mindset. 43 minutes after the first plane was hijacked Americans figured out WTF to do themselves, before our government knew what to do, and Todd Beamer verbalized it with two simple words: "Lets Roll!"
Nobody will ever again try the shit those camel fuckers pulled on 9/11 and it's not because we all got united and gave the Federal government new powers. It's because Americans won't stand for that crap. Bin Laden's plan fell apart within an HOUR because American citizens got wise to the plan, violating FAA regulations by using cellphones while in air, and took those assholes out.
Yes, I am now the official MArooner correspondent.
In fact, I'm expensing this whole trip to JayG's credit card.
Jay, we're not there. We suck. But at least you have a network of correspondents to help you. It's JNN, The JayG News Network. They report, JayG decides.
I'll just read and feel inadequate.
