Draw The Line...

So, apparently there's a list floating around out there of music allegedly played at Gitmo as part of interrogation techniques. The list has been released due to FOIA requests from musicians curious to know if their music was used in torture. Because I know y'all need to know, here's the list:

-- AC/DC
-- Aerosmith
-- Barney theme song (By Bob Singleton)
-- The Bee Gees
-- Britney Spears
-- Bruce Springsteen
-- Christina Aguilera
-- David Gray
-- Deicide
-- Don McClean
-- Dope
-- Dr. Dre
-- Drowning Pool
-- Eminem
-- Hed P.E.
-- James Taylor
-- Limp Bizkit
-- Marilyn Manson
-- Matchbox Twenty
-- Meatloaf
-- Meow mix jingle
-- Metallica
-- Neil Diamond
-- Nine Inch Nails
-- Pink
-- Prince
-- Queen
-- Rage against the Machine
-- Red Hot Chili Peppers
-- Redman
-- Saliva
-- Sesame street theme music (By Christopher Cerf)
-- Stanley Brothers
-- The Star Spangled Banner
-- Tupac Shakur

Don McLean??? Did they play "American Pie" over and over and over or something? Barney and Sesame Street I can grok - the thought of these hardened terrorists being forced to listen to "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family" just kicks over my giggle box...

But Neil Diamond? Amnesty International should have something to say about that...

That is all.

Force me to listen to the Barney song non-stop and I'd cop to being Jack the Ripper and be begging the guards to shoot me.

I can see how a Islamic extremist (see what I did there?), could find 'Coming to America' and 'Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show' would fit perfectly into some tortue sessions.

That's dumb. All they need is recordings of It's A Small World (ffs that could be enough right there) and a three hour loop of The Song That Never Ends, as any parent should know.

"We have spent the past 30 years supporting causes related to peace and justice. To now learn that some of our friends' music may have been used as part of the torture tactics without their consent or knowledge is horrific," the American rock band R.E.M. said in a statement posted on CloseGitmoNow.org. "It's anti-American, period."

Oh, please, someone tell me that the members of Rage Against the Machine are upset that their songs aren't used for peace and justice.

Maybe they've forgotten the lyrics.

On a side note, good to hear that Michael Stipe isn't dead. Dude should be sent to Gitmo for Shiny Happy People.

Just reading the list made me confess to crimes against humanity...

I went on that ride in 1978, and haven't shaken off the effects yet.

How's tha, Farmgirl?

confess? They would do anything for love, but they won't do that!

TOTWTYTR, I've been on that ride enough to know that you left off the "it' a world of laughter, a world of tears...." part. :)

Great, now you've let the cat out of the bag so all the terror camps will start playing this stuff to toughen up their soldiers. I noticed there was no country music. I guess it has universal appeal throughout the world.

As a side note, went to Disneyland recently with my wife and refused on penalty of death (hers and mine) to not go on the Its a Small World ride.

Everyone seems to forget about "99 bottles of beer" as a means of torture!

TOTWTYTR said...

Yeah RW, I knew that part, but left if off just to dull the pain. Thanks for reminding me! ;)

RW: Yeah, Tom Morello crapped himself when he heard RatM music was used.

Frankly, I found Rage to be a puerile, immature bunch of feebs anyways.

I am astonished that "It's a Small World" was not on the list. I would crawl over broken glass to escape that pap. My family KNOWS by now that if they go on that ride, Uncle Ross waits OUTSIDE.

BTW... a friend of mine was in the ride once when the ride broke down. He was stranded between two different countries for FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. He was about ready to WALK out at that point when the boats started moving again...

Our enemies should keep in mind that the US holds the ultimate weapon in reserve.

Tapes of Britney Spears singing WITHOUT Autotune.

Even we pray that we never use it.

Hey, I didn't see Brian Adams on the list. If he was there, we'd really be culpable.

And thanks to TOTWTYTR, now I have that earworm song burrowing through my cerebellum.

Ross, 45 minutes? I'd start walking after 45 SECONDS.

Midwest Chick, glad I could help. Well, I guess it's not help.
