Even More Massachusetts Miracles

Lynch’s wife tied to agencies he won grants for
US Representative Stephen F. Lynch has engineered four federal grants for a community health center and another three grants for a nearby substance abuse program, organizations for which his wife, Margaret, is an employee or board member.

Lynch arranged the passage of $760,430 in federal earmarks for the South Boston Community Health Center. Margaret Lynch is the center’s director of marketing and development. Earmarks totaling $881,018 were appropriated for the Gavin Foundation, a residential substance abuse program. Lynch’s wife was named to the foundation’s unpaid board just after it received its first earmark in 2003.
Now, I'm certain that these are all coincidental, right? I mean, there's no way that a MA politician would act dishonestly, right? Just because this is the state where the past three Speakers of the House have resigned under a cloud of turmoil, two of which faced prosecution and the third is under investigation doesn't mean that ALL MA politicians are crooked, right? Just because her husband has brought in $1.64 million dollars worth of earmarks has no bearing on her $55K/year job - for 27.5 hours a week.

Right?

I'm certain that if this were Sarah Palin in question, the media coverage would be the same. No, really, stop laughing. I'm certain that the actual, you know, journalism would be performed by reporters and such, just like this story. Oh, wait:
This article was prepared for a course in investigative reporting at Northeastern University.
Got that? It was only through the work of students at a college that this came to light, rather than a hard-hitting exposé done by the Glob. Isn't it good to know that the major newspapers are letting university undergraduates do the heavy lifting in reporting on possible conflicts of interest for US Reps?

Nope. No bias here...

That is all.

Haven't they all gone out of business already?

Dunno. I thought the Globe had been "put in the back, in the discount rack, like another can of beans"...

Not out of business yet, but they're heading that way.

Jay, why are you so cynical? Surely you can't believe that the Globe and other Lame Stream Media outlets would give a pass to a Democrat Congressman. Why, they're too busy going through Palin's trash to see if she recycles, that's all.

The good news, I can vote against Lynch next year. The bad news, he'll probably win anyway.
