It's What They Do...

Dem seeks to boost gas tax by 12 cents
A Cambridge lawmaker wants to hike the state gas tax by 12 cents a gallon to bail out the cash-strapped MBTA.

Democrat Rep. Alice Wolf said raising the 23.5-cent gas tax would bring in enough cash to stabilize the financially troubled T.

Yeah, because $0.12/gallon in extra tax money is what it's going to take to fix the MBTA. If you believe that, we'll check back with you around Halloween as you're waiting for the Great Pumpkin to rise out of the pumpkin patch and re-distribute tax money for all. Look, they jacked the sales tax up 1.25% on the promise that gas taxes and tolls wouldn't go up, and that lasted all of six months. Now they're claiming that they *need* more tax money to "save" the MBTA. How many assistant executive assistant vice presidents do you think the "T" has?

Here's the best part. They're saying it's "only" a ten cent tax. What they're forgetting to tell you is that it's going to keep increasing as part of an overall $0.50 increase on a gallon of gas. Right now gas is somewhere between $2.50 and $2.75 a gallon - that's nearly a 20% increase in the overall price of gasoline in the state of MA. That's the kind of thing that happens when one party has a stranglehold on the legislative branch...

IOW, MA Democrats raise taxes for the same reason a dog licks his own balls - because they can.

That is all...

So once again they feel complelled to pass another NH stimulus bill.

The increase in the sales tax has been so sucessful it's brought in exactly NO additional revenue. ( and strangely NH sales are up while Mass sales are down substantualy ) but then .. you can't confuse the well meaning POLS with facts.

....and all to support a transit system that goes from where most taxpayers don't live to where the ones who still work in jobs that generate revenue, don't work.

When something doesn't work the first time .... keep doing it.....It's the Massachsetts way.

But remember, the evil Republicans hate the Little Guy.

Money won't fix the MBTA. In fact, probably nothing will. Mass Transit is a favorite of the left, but the truth is that there isn't one system anywhere that doesn't need continuous and ever increasing subsidies to run.

And of course, the taxpayers will not voluntarily pay for a system most of them never use, so they have to be forced to do it by being taxed at a higher rate.

Sadly, come November 2010, most of these same thieves will be voted right back into office.

Thereby confirming the cynical evaluation by the politicians that the electorate is made up of morons.

If you can make it expensive enough to drive, people will have no choice but to do the environmentally responsible thing and ride public transport to approved destinations.

The gas tax has the biggest impact on the little guy. It means nothing to the rich. You just make it harder for the poor schmuck to get to work. I know! Increase the minimum wage too!! I guess it is good for the environment when that guy gets to stay at home without a job.
