HARRISBURG, Pa. — U.S. Rep. John Murtha, an influential critic of the Iraq War whose congressional career was shadowed by questions about his ethics, died today. He was 77.
The Pennsylvania Democrat had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery. He died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., spokesman Matthew Mazonkey said.
At this point in time, I'll abide by the adage to not speak ill of the (recently) dead. Regardless of Murtha's views and actions in recent times, the man served his country honorably and voluntarily put himself in harm's way in Vietnam. Thank you for your service, Colonel Murtha. While we may judge your words since leaving the service according to our political views, we all owe you a debt of gratitude for being one of the rough men standing ready.
Rest in peace, Representative Murtha.

There's always a percentage of 'birds. This one was just in a position to do a lot of damage. Now he's not. Let's hope the people do a better job when they select someone to replace him.
He served in Korea too. After it was over he went into the reserves and then volunteered to serve in Vietnam when it went hot.
We might not all agree with what he's said over the last 8 years or so regarding Iraq but he certainly had some experience to back it up.
Very sad news. I wish his family the best in coping with their loss.
He served, he gets credit for that... for the rest, not so much...
It was the power that caused him to become so irresponsible. His service as a Marine was commendable, as was his early career in Congress. He seemed to go off the rails sometime after Bush was elected to his second term.

Just read a news report that has the cause of death as *Damage o the large intestine, due to earlier gall bladder surgery*.
He had the surgery done at Bethesda Naval Hospital, performed under Gov't Health Care, the kind that these putz's in Washington want to foist on all Americans.
Lets see if the rest of his colleagues will reconsider OBambiCare now...
