Happy Birthday BSA!

Michael W. reminded me that today is the 100th birthday of the Boy Scouts of America. Here are some stories related to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the BSA:

And here are some interesting facts about Scouts:

What happens to a Scout? For every 100 boys who join Scouting, records indicate that:

  • RARELY will one be brought before the juvenile court system
  • 2 will become Eagle Scouts
  • 17 will become future Scout volunteers
  • 12 will have their first contact with a church
  • 1 will enter the clergy
  • 5 will earn their church award
  • 18 will develop a hobby that will last through their adult life
  • 8 will enter a vocation that was learned through the merit badge system
  • 1 will use his Scouting skills to save his own life
  • 1 will use his Scouting skills to save the life of another person

Happy 100th Anniversary, BSA!

That is all.

Somehow I didn't see this post of yours before I sent you that email.

Indeed. Happy Birthday to the Scouts. I expect to be seeing TheBoyG's Eagle announcement in a few years. :)

But how old is the pinewood derby?

My dad was a very dedicated scout in his teenage years, rising to Eagle Scout and was a scoutmaster in early adulthood. Considering all this it surprises me as I look back and note he never made any attenpt to get me involved.

Happy Birthday to all Scouts & Scouters! To think that, but for the drive of Lord Baden Powell and that one unknown scout who did a good turn, none of this may have happened.

Scouting build character.
