Not only is he the mayor, but he's also a state representative, a position he held when he ran for mayor, and a position he has refused to relinquish even after becoming the mayor of a large, troubled city. Lawrence has faced many problems in recent times, with declining property values, rampant petty crime, and budgetary woes. And if you wonder why he's keeping both positions?
With the city nearing bankruptcy, a key legislative committee will launch discussions today of a measure that would allow Lawrence to take out millions in loans to repair its tattered finances, while appointing an outside overseer to help the city stabilize its budget. Facing a deficit of close to $25 million, the city is in danger of running out of money this spring without a massive influx of cash.

That's standard operating procedure in Jersey. There are guys holding two elected state jobs AND practicing law for firms dealing with public projects. (No conflict of interest of course) Eventually they retire with 2 or 3 tax-payer funded pensions.

The Dominican community in Lawrence got him there and I'm sure that he will win no matter the conditions in the city. Why would you leave a 3rd world country for a better life and bring the same crap with you... Ans I'm saying this as a refugee from another quasi 3rd world place (PR is getting worst by the day too).
