More MA "Justice"...

Victim rips court’s lenient punishment
A Saugus woman still in pain and fearing financial ruin from a post-prom accident that killed her mother was dealt another crushing blow yesterday after the 19-year-old party boy behind the wheel that tragic night was sentenced to just six months in jail.

“This state is the worst. We protect the criminals. We don’t protect the victims at all,” said Charlotte Marean, 43, who faces more surgeries from the May 16 accident that killed her mother, Carol, 67. “Your life in this state is absolutely worth zero.”

Yup. You read that right. Underaged drinking. Drunk driving. Hit-and-run resulting in bodily injury. Hit-and-run resulting in death. Total sentence? Six months. If he can keep his nose clean he'll more than likely be out in less than that. Even if he serves his full term, he's still getting away with murder for less than a slap on the wrist. I mean, hell, the woman who murdered Matthew Eappen at least served 9 months, and there were no other charges...

Just because it's so absurd that it bears repeating: If I were to cross the border into NH, buy a new 12 round magazine for my SW99, and cross back into MA I'd be a felon. I'd face the likelihood of five years in jail for that offense for having a freakin' piece of metal. But get drunk while underage, climb behind the wheel of a car, hit two people, killing one of them, and then leaving the scene? Six months.

Goes to show the priorities in this state, no?

That is all.

That's absurd.

No, that's socialism. Drunk drivers can't hurt the state. Guns can.

Makes you wonder who he is related to, doesn't it?

DUI resulting in a death should be treated as murder. He chose to drink, knowing he didn't have any way to get home other than driving, therefore, the choice to drive drunk was made while he was sober. No one with a driver's license can honestly claim they don't know the risks of driving drunk.

He willingly and voluntarily took the risk of killing someone when he started drinking knowing he would be driving.

Also:
"Jonathan Caruso of Saugus was ordered to serve six months of a 2 -year maximum sentence for misdemeanor motor-vehicle homicide by reckless operation after he pleaded guilty."

Killing someone by reckless driving is only a frakking misdemeanor in MA? WTF? (It is, however, a good example of how a state misdemeanor can make someone a prohibited person with respect to firearms - it's punishable by more than a year, so as far as the feds are concerned it's a felony, no matter what MA calls it.)

There are so many things wrong with this case it's infuriating to read about. Notice that, even though he was so drunk that he fell asleep at the wheel, they didn't draw blood until over ten hours later, which is why he didn't actually get a DUI conviction - the police blew it.

I don't like your other stories. They make me feel angry in ways that are inexpressible.

Too bad they're true.

Sounds like he was "prosecuted" by the Kennedy Rules.

Betcha he'd do more time if it was an agent of the State that he knocked off..... or someone an agent of the State gave a crap about: It's called the Aristocracy of Pull.

The obvious solution (though maybe not the correct one) is to find Wesley Mouch and shoot him..... thus the restrictions on guns.

Good news! The driver has just announced his intention to make a large donation to the Chappaquiddick branch of the YMCA, and will also serve 100 hours of community service there. He has asked that his service be done as a swimming instructor.

huh, maybe I'm confused .. he was drunk and ran over someone with his car .... don't you have to make him a senator? I thought that was the law.

Don't forget the genius of the Saugus public school system. They not only hosted the prom, they sponsored a HARBOR CRUISE *AFTER THE PROM* WHICH WENT ON UNTIL 4am*... (AND THEN the dickhead went to Nahant Beach to get twisted, up for probably close to 24 hrs and drinking before he got behind the wheel.)

So, we keep the kids up til the wee hours, at an event guaranteed to have alcohol, AND THEN FOLLOW IT UP WITH A F*CKING CRUISE, all with the blessing/endorsement/support of a public school.

(Not to diminish f*ckwit Caruso's role in all of this, but the f*cking town of Saugus needs to fire every f*cking moron who signed off on such a night of state-sanctioned partying.)

And then the cops, for some unbelievable reason, did not run his worthless face across a breathalyzer for almost NINE F*CKING HOURS after the homicide. "Whoops, sorry Ms Marean, we don't have any BAC evidence for your court case...."
