Off to Camp

Not us; we're back from our camping trip. TheBoy, however, is leaving for his first overnight camp today. It's the So-Kee-Tay overnight for WeBeLoS scouts, boys that are entering fourth or fifth grade, at the local Scout Reservation.

This will be his first significant time away from home (overnights at a friend's down the street aren't the same). He's excited as all get-out; I OTOH am somewhat nervous. I shouldn't be - he'll be in very good hands both with the Scouts in general and with this group particularly - his unit leader is our Committee Chair - but it's still his first time away.

Be safe buddy and stay away from leaves of three!

That is all.

Jay,
Greetings from Cuttyhunk Island !!
The first time My Progeny went to overnight camp - a duration of two weeks & located about 140 miles from home - My Darling Charming Wife was a complete and total mess. She did nothing but pace and climb the walls for the entire time. My Darling Wife still paces when My Progeny is away, although less now than the very first time. And yes, sleeping at a friend's house doesn't really count. I have a feeling you'll be fine . . . as will Mrs. G.

Shit, Jay - I was always so happy to get the little bit of time to myself when my spawn had things to do that included being away from home over night that I never had Time to be nervous about how they were going to do there!

Ah camp! I still remember many of the greatly revised song-lyrics that I learned at Scout Camp and CHURCH Camp.
My wife is constantly amazed since she never had the exposure to such as:
Casey Jones was a son of a b*tch, drove his train into a whorehouse ditch, ran inside with his balls in his hand, said (deep voice) "Hello Ladies I'm a Railroad Man!"...etc.
or
My Country 'tis of thee, sweet land of Germany... My father was a spy, caught by the FBI, hung by his yellow tie...
or
This Land is MY land, go find your own land,
etc.
And all those great variations of On Top of Old Smokey, all covered in blood...great green gobs of greasy grimey gopher guts, all-purpose porpoise pus, mutilated monkey meat, etc.

What gems of youth!

Comet! It tastes like gasoline!
