Piling On...

The Pistolero smacks around the 1980s silliness that was the PMRC.

He was inspired by #1 Blogson's take on Dee Snyder's comments on the Wendy Williams show a while back. Basically, Dee (rightfully) rakes the Gores over the coals for their hypocrisy in pushing the PMRC in the '80s and then winding up divorced with progeny who have had drug troubles while Snyder is still married and drug-free. Pistolero goes on to break down some Iron Maiden songs and exposes the PMRC as nothing but the farce that it was.

Pistolero points out that the Gores were Deadheads, hypocrisy enough in its own right, as I'd wager that more people have broken this country's (drug) laws listening to the Grateful Dead than any other laws broken listening to heavy metal music. But what's even more puzzling to me is how members of the Dead went to great lengths to support Al Gore over the years, performing at fundraisers for Al and even letting Tipper jam with them last year.

To me, that's a far greater hypocrisy than Snyder points out. To actively support and campaign for the very people that were trying to put your fellow musicians out of business is the very worst kind of Judas (and I don't mean Priest who were also the target of holy roller wanna-bes) - there has got to be a special place in hell for that kind of backstabbery. It is said that politics make strange bedfellows; that much is certain in this odd juxtaposition of the pairing of the author of "Raising PG Kids in an X-Rated Society" and the folks who brought us "drivin' that train, high on cocaine, Casey Jones you'd better watch your speed"...

If there is any cosmic justice, Frank Zappa will be kicking Jerry Garcia in the ass every single day for the rest of eternity...

That is all.

I guess you could call it the musical counterpart to the hunters throwing the black rifle shooters under the bus. God knows it's just as infuriating.

And thanks for the link, JayG. ;-)

Wildly O/T, but Jay, I was wondering if I could beg your honest opinion of this?

Sorry, again, for going O/T, but I've been checking in, hoping to see a new post on the topic & wanted an "outsiders" viewpoint, while still being an insider of the state. :)

Also note that Iron Maiden was actually GOOD. Can't say the same for the Dead.

What Weerd said.

I really can't say any more than "Meh" for The Dead, Iron Maiden OTOH.. Awesome.
