The Count Keeps Growing...

Unc, Admin, and reader Gene hipped me to this feel-good story out of North Carolina:

Pizza Hut employee shoots and kills robbery suspects

CHARLOTTE -- An employee at an east Charlotte restaurant shot and killed two armed suspects Monday night and the search is on for a third man involved in the robbery attempt.

Police say the three men entered a Pizza Hut on Independence Boulevard around 11:15 p.m. They beat one employee and tried to force two others into the cooler. One of those employees turned and fired his own gun at the suspects, shooting and killing two of them.

The only downside to this story is that the employee in question might lose his job over having a firearm at his gun-free workplace. I mean, he could have hurt someone with that thing! I mean, they were only herding the employees into a cooler in the back of the restaurant after beating one and robbing the place. They should have given them what they wa- no, wait, they did that. They were being good little victims, just like company policy, right up until they were about to be executed.

Instead, our Hero sent two of 'em to the morgue - and in this case, two outta three definitely ain't bad.

Dead Goblin Count: 69 & 70

That is all.

He'll lose his job. Pizza Hut is pretty reliable on this matter. It seems that every 2-3 years an incident like this pops up, though usually with a delivery driver, and they can the guy after giving him a few weeks off with pay.

Job offers from local mom & pop places are probably already en route.

Justin Buist: If this is the same one that came up in comments yesterday, maybe not. Earlier reports were that he had a "law enforcement background" but didn't say what that was. If he's currently a cop (even just part time) and is just delivering pizza as a second job on the side, he's probably required by his department to carry at all times. I suspect that in that case, Pizza Hut would let it slide.

March 2008, Des Moines.

PH delivery guys get robbed quite often- he had one murdered for 36$ in Omaha this month.... it is just not that common that they fight back.... 'spose there is a relationship between the "Give them what they want!" Corporate Policy and the frequency of the robberies?

If he gets fired, so what? Although I know that PH's policy is based on "Give them what they want, they'll leave you alone", it's divorced from reality. The reality is that many of these thugs will shoot you just for shits and giggles after robbing you of the money and the pizza.

Ask that pizza delivery guy in Boston that was stabbed to death last month. Oh, wait, you can't ask him, he's dead. I bet he wished he had a gun.
