Friday Gun Pr0n #185

Today's gun pr0n comes to us courtesy of commenter Bubblehead Les, one of the many fine people I met at the First Annual Northcoast bloggershoot:

Happiness is a belt-fed weapon

Yes, that is an actual Browning Model 1919 belt-fed rifle. This particular model is chambered in 7.62X51mm and is semi-automatic, so the cost of feeding isn't quite as bad as a full auto (in the sense that it doesn't go quite as fast...). I got to put a dozen or so rounds through this beauty, which as a semi-auto firing from a seated position isn't as easy as you think. You pull the trigger straight back in a manner unlike a standard trigger - the trigger keeps going rather than pivoting like in a traditional firearm. Add in the lack of sights (since, well, it's supposed to be a belt-fed machine gun!) and it was a learning curve to get it on target. I did manage to walk it over to a 4" clay pigeon, and once I broke that I figured it was time to go out on top...

Thanks for bringing her to the shoot, Les - it was a pleasure meeting you and shooting this fine piece of history!

That is all.

I have one of these as well. The reason the trigger feels odd is that it doesn't move straight back...it pivots UP.

Also, there are sights on the gun...the are just folded down in this picture. The rear is right above the grip. The front sight is at the front of the receiver.

Mine has a "crankfire" attachement which fires 4 times per rotation of the crank. These are manufactured by Emory Jones and Ohio Blacksheep. It is similar to a gatling gun with this

This particular weapon also has the Training and Elevation (T+E) attached. Some people at the Shoot wanted it to be loose on the tripod, but for Safety reasons, I didn't want the barrel going upwards if someone thought they were done shooting and it rose skywards. Be kinda hard to explain to the FAA that we didn't mean to shoot down that Cessna..
