Full Body Revolt...

In the classic "I don't have time for this", I spent a good chunk of last night tossing and turning, convinced that our furnace was no longer working and the house had grown cold. I went so far as to go down in the basement and check on the oil levels and the furnace itself, only to find that everything was as it should be - over a half a tank of oil, and the furnace functioning normally.

The reason I was so cold is that I had somehow contracted an extremely fast-acting bug of some sort. I went to bed shortly after midnight, leaving plenty of time to get a good night's sleep before church & CCD for the kids, and generally planning a very busy day. 2AM and I'm freezing, unable to sleep and wandering the house looking for heat. Woke up as Mrs. G. left for work at 7, had her check my throat (we've had strep going around the family), and fell back asleep for two more hours. I'm going to get the kids to CCD, possibly gas the truck up if I have strength left in my body, then spend the afternoon attempting to keep them quiet.

Why does my body go into full revolt at the worst possible time???

That is all.

Biological Warfare by the DemiCommies to shut you up before the Election? Or a random attack by some virus that's going around? Probably the later, but the former is a lot more fun to contemplate for those who wear tin foil Yarmulkes. "It's a Konspirace my Brothers, a Konspirace! K..O..N..Spirace!"

Something as a southerner/westerner that I have always failed to understand: Why do so many in the north east rely on fuel oil to heat buildings? Seems much less efficient than natural gas or electricity.

That's no fun at all. Hope you feel better soon.

Steve: Efficiency and cost are 2 different things. In my neck of the woods (1 state south of Jay) we have the highest electrical rates in the country. Using electric for heat costs 2-3 times what it costs to use oil or gas. Natural gas is generally the cheapest, but usually not an option unless you live in an urban or some suburban areas. Fuel oil is generally the cheapest option you have for heating (well, wood is the cheapest, if you don't factor in all the labor) if NG isn't available to you. Another thing with NG is you are totally reliant on a public utility for heat. If you use oil, you can stockpile as much as you can afford, and shop around for the best price. If you are not happy with the service you can go elsewhere. That's worth something to a lot of people.

Dr. Stretch prescribes some Celtic Cough Medicine. Something in the 12-18 year old range. May or may not be supplemented with honey and hot water.

Pile on the blankets, and make the kids go play outside until they're worn out, leaving you to sleep in peace. Alternatively, go to a SEIU meeting and make sure to be friendly with as many people as you can be. Make some no-bake cookies for them.

Hope this goes as fast as it came!

Rough. Hope you're feeling better.

What is it about larger trucks that gassing up is its own errand? It doesn't take THAT long, but I do the same thing. I've got a 35gal tank, and since filling it is so expensive, I guess I make it part of my Sunday ritual when I'm home.

When I start to feel chilly-achy-boogery-icky-generally flu-like bad, I mix 1/3 cup water with a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, nuke for twenty seconds and down it. I also do the sleep under a mountain of blankets thing.

37 gallon tank on the Titan and it's a chore and a challenge to keep feeding it. Oil heat, too. Gee, we're like a club!

Feel better Jay. Wear your furry hat with the Fudd flaps!
