Extreme Piloting Skills

PISSED sent me this video - take a look at some majorly impressive piloting:

What a surgeon does with a scalpel, that pilot does with a joystick...

That is all.

Wow. That's pretty gorram impressive. I don't think he had a whole lot of clearance between that aft rotor and the next "step" in the hillside, either.

I don't know if that is a taught maneuver but I have seen pictures of that aircraft doing that same maneuver in other places but ,still takes great piloting.

Highly cool video. Couple years ago there was a pic circulating of a (I think) Pennsylvania Air Guard helo pilot doing the same thing . . . . he sat the ass-end of his tandem-rotor craft down on a hill-top while holding hover, in order to affect extraction of wounded GI's. Impressive as all hell, especially considering that helo blades don't work well in the thin air of higher elevations.

It's also a stunning example of crew coordination, the pilot cannot see back there.

Two episodes I have been involved in that looked much like this only in Huey's. One in VietNam, set one skid on a paddy dike so we could load casualties, and another in the mountains of Utah, same scene, picking up a wounded at 7800 feet on a trail that was 3 feet wide. Army pilots are AWSOME!
