Makes You Wonder...

I'm not condoning this, but...

Man Arrested After Incident On Logan Flight
BOSTON (CBS) – A man was removed from a US Airways flight at Logan Airport and arrested Monday morning after an incident on board.

Massport spokeman Phil Orlandella told WBZ-TV the unidentified man was standing in the aisle of flight 2025 to Reagan National in Washington, D.C. during boarding and refused to move or stop talking on his cell phone.

The very next line is the following:
When he stored his luggage in the overhead bin, there was a suspicious electronic noise coming from it, which concerned some passengers, Orlandella said.

I wonder if this was legitimate, or if it was one of those, he's being an obnoxious jerk, so absorbed in his own little world that he was delaying the flight so someone "heard" a "suspicious" noise coming from his bag? I mean, I certainly don't condone removing obnoxious people from airplanes just because they're being jerks - no, wait, that's exactly what I condone.

Of course, I condone them being removed out the cargo bay shortly after take-off...

That is all.

It's not even needed to "hear" a sound to manufacure a reason to have him removed. Disobeying an order from a member of a flight crew is a felony, this includes the flight attendants.

Sir, I'm sorry, but your behavior in the crew compartment of this aircraft is unacceptable. You've got a choice: I can either call the authorities, and have you escorted off of this airplane and arrested for not following my directions, or you can sign this release of liability, put on this pair of electric underwear and oxygen mask, and ride in the cargo compartment with the rest of the unthinking cargo. Your choice. Thanks for flying GetOffMyLawn Airlines.

I flew to Ill. last November and there was an asshole in the seat in front of us. He had to told numerous times to turn off the cell. To the point where the F.A. smacked his shoulder. They went thru all the annoucements and such about electonic devices so every knew the drill.

We hadnt even climbed a few thousand feet when this asshat was up and in his luggage in the overhead bin. My buddy and I looked at each other then the F.A. who rolled his eyes.

Looking over the idiots shoulder to see what was so important, he had legal docs about a medical company buying out another medical company.

I guess lawyers think they are special.

Since he was arrested I'm guessing

" Do you know who I am??" Didn't work for him as well as he expected it To.

I already go through life hearing sounds that other people can't hear.

I and a small percentage of the population can hear the 15.75KHz hum that comes from the horizontal sweep of a standard NTSC cathode ray tube television. That sweep is causes by magnets deflecting an electron beam, and amazingly, magnetic field don't just stop inside of the area they're intended to work within. They fill the area inside of the TV, pushing and pulling other pieces of metal in the chassis. That vibration produces a sound. In my experience, the bigger the TV is (i.e. sports bar TVs, due to the magnitude of the field change) and cheaper it is (i.e. motel TVs, with poorer fitting components), the louder the sound.

Just about nothing else makes a sound consistently at that frequency, so it shouts in my ears even when other sounds are also loud. It is frequently painfully loud, as no one else can hear it, so they don't care that there's a 100db sound generator in the room. I can hear the sound in the next room over, so it doesn't matter of you're watching that old TV with the sound down and subtitles on, I can still hear the TV.

So, what I'm saying, officer, is that guy's luggage was making a high pitched noise in the high 15KHz range, almost certainly as the result of some kind of electronic gadget, and I can prove that I can hear such noises in a court of law, even if you can't hear it.

They could have done like I did to one asshole, I took the Bberry out of his hand, removed the battery and handed it to the FA... :-) The asshole tried to have me arrested for theft after the flight, but the FA and pilot told the cops the rest of the story, and they offered to arrest the offender...LOL

Jay, the cargo bay door isn't a practical solution - it can't be closed from inside the aircraft. The landing gear bay is ideal for this situation.
