Make My Day Shooter: ‘I Did The Right Thing’
DENVER (CBS4)- A 17-year-old who was shot and killed after breaking into a northeast Denver home last May was under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and opiates according to a CBS4 Investigation.Now, your guess is as good as mine where the media gets the "Make My Day" shooter part - there's no mention of the homeowner using the phrase or anything. We can only infer that the media is - yet again - trying to poison the well for successful defensive gun usage.

They were scared and running out when it happened,” said Gonzales.Now, I understand that you're hurting (Gonzales is the mother of the goblin killed). But really? Your kid breaks into one house, then another, while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, is carrying a loaded firearm, and you honestly expect someone to shoot him in the leg? Hollywood is BS - the femoral artery will bleed out quick and kill you just as dead as a direct hit to the sternum.
I've got a better idea: How about you raise your kids to respect others and not break into houses while high and drunk and carrying a gun?

I think Colorado's version of the castle is called make my day.

Quick history: Castle Doctrine is about defense in the home, “Stand your Ground” is about defense in public. “Stand your Ground” laws where dubbed “Make my day” laws by the anti's because it removed a duty to retreat in some situations.
Now unbelievable as it seems, most states did not have a Castle doctrine (or one worth a damn). So when several states added a “Stand your Ground” law they also added (or strengthened) the Castle Doctrine.
To this day, they are still pro-gun, pro-self-defense people people whom call self-defense in public without a duty to retreat “Castle Doctrine.” It's not, it is “Stand your Ground.”
The end result being that Castle Doctrine is now also called a make-my-day law.
(BTW, it is like the media calling magazines “clips.” We on the pro-gun side are worse offenders than the anti's. Look at the adds for internet sales on magazines... They read “Clips on Sale!!!! [jackholes....])

I'll point out that once again, the goblin was 5ft away from the homeowner, and the good guy's first shot missed the target completely. He was lucky he had time to get off a second shot that hit it's mark.
Train people! And train some more. Don't just buy a gun and stick it in a sock.
If this country is going to have so many "watch lists" I say we start one for "likely thugs". All of the decedents of any parent that has a kid like this gets put on the list. The parents, too. Pretty much a list for people that can't rais their kids to be anything but criminals.

We also have state-wide shall issue CCW. Open carry is legal except for a few endarkened places like Denver, Vail, and Aspen.

Me I'm all for suing the parents of the juvenile for their failure, causing emotional distress, and property damage. Maybe if there was risk in it for they stop treating their little darling like anything but a rogue/drunk/druggie that they are.

I am overcome with a desire to meet with both the mother and godmother face-to-face and backhand them both, HARD, after watching that video for multiple reasons.
The first 911 call? that woman was reduced to hiding in her own room because YOUR frickin' spawn decided to get high (amongst other things) and rob her. Who the hell was responsible for teaching YOUR child right and wrong?
Gr. Those women make me very angry...but the fact that the guy managed to kill one of the goblins, yet is trying to help the other two? Kudos to you, man. Kudos to you.

Some of the supporters of the law called it that, too. :) The antis and the media may have intended "Make My Day Law" as mockery, but we don't have to let them set the terms of the debate. My reaction was then and still remains, "You say that like it's a bad thing."
I might have shot, but I disagree with assuming you should just be blaming the mother/parent. Do you really still believe kids raised "right" always make "right" choices? I guess we gave no ability to make our own choice...

While what you say is absolutely true, I'm going on the mother's assessment that the homeowner should have shot him in the leg and that he was just "scared and trying to leave".
No.
He was under the influence of illegal drugs and illegally obtained alcohol. He was illegally carrying a firearm he was not eligible to possess (age).
He screwed up six ways to Sunday, and mommy wants the homeowner to play Roy Rogers?
I don't think so.
