MArooned Product Review: SKB Double Rifle Case

I mentioned another product review from one of the online stores in the CSN Stores network a little while ago. I had mentioned that I was thinking of a rifle case from the Cases and More store, based on a request on a previous product review, so I opted for a Double Rifle Case, model SKB-4009, from SKB. It arrived last week, so I figured I'd offer some preliminary thoughts so far (it will be a while before I hit the rifle range, given that it's currently under three feet of snow...)

Here's the case:

Sturdy

Take a close look. There are two locking latches as well as two standard latches; there are also two positions for an external lock on each end of the case. Not visible in the picture are the wheels and handle for easy transport through an airport - this case is rated for 100 trips by air. It also comes with a $1,500 replacement guarantee - if any of the guns in the case are damaged in transport, SKB will reimburse up to $1,500. That's pretty damned impressive right there.

Here's a look inside:

Cavernous

It's a great fit for carbines and other short(er) rifles - the interior length is 40", so the Bushmaster and 10/22 fit fine, but an SKS is too long. The "bunk bed" style stacking of the firearms, with the foam in between, means that neither gun will be damaged or otherwise marred while in the case. For everyday trips, it looks like two rifles and numerous pistols could easily fit in this case - certainly everything you'd need for a day's outing at the range.

At the end of the month we'll have the annual Ambulance Driver shooting event - I'll have a chance to see how it holds up in use then!

That is all.
