Adding to the Count...

Reader Kevin sends in this story of yet another child killed by gunfire...

1 teen killed, 1 hurt in suspected burglary in Tomball area

A 17-year-old was killed and one other teen was injured late Friday night after a machine shop owner caught the teens allegedly stealing a flat screen TV, tools and other items from his Tomball-area business, officials said.

At least one of the two 17-year-old men shot was armed, but officials were unsure if the business owner saw the weapon before he fired, said Thomas Gilliland, spokesman for the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

My grandfather was a machinist. He would have shot anyone that tried to steal his tools, I guarantee it. Reading the whole story, someone called the shop owner to let him know that his place was being burglarized. He called the cops, then headed over them himself - very reasonable, very prudent. He not only made it there before the police, he had enough time to confront the armed goblins and shoot one of them dead before the cops got there.

The cops are under no obligation to protect you, but a .45 will always go bang when you need it...

Dead Goblin Count: 136

That is all.

Good for him... as a machinist and machine shop owner I know that everything in my business is worth more than one shitbag. It becomes personal when someone tries to take something the you have worked hard for. Granted there is insurance and getting killed or hurt yourself is not worth it BUT I'm sure the owners adrenalin was flowing and the anger at seeing some asshole taking your stuff was more than enough.

If the media reported these incidents with the victim being the victim and the criminal being the criminal instead of some poor, misunderstood, aspiring rap star, or dirtbag meth addict, that was turning his life around, maybe the goblins would get it. ( I'll hold my breathe)

"officials were unsure if the business owner saw the weapon before he fired,". This is irrelevant. It was after dark. In TX the Castle Doctrine provides allowance for night time events specifying that the weapon does not need to be seen before deadly force can be used. Unlike the day where it is required. I cannot recall the actual statute wording or number and work blocks most of my 2A searches. Maybe another TX reader knows the details.

This ties in to a post Bob S wrote last week, responding to the anti's cries of "property isn't worth a life."

When someone steals a machinist's tools, they're stealing more than property - they're stealing his ability to put food on the table, his ability to keep the heat on, and his ability to keep a roof over his head.

It's not just property they were trying to steal, it's his ability to stay alive.

The fact that one of the goblins was armed indicates that they were more than willing to trade the life of the shop owner for the 'stuff' they were stealing. The confrontation is not 'their life' for 'my stuff'. The confrontation is 'their life' or 'my life'?

Is your life worth your life?
