So What's Next?

With the addition of the Savage to the G. armory, I had a realization: I had filled the last major hole in the G. armory.
Now, there's about as many different sub-sections of the gun community as there are individual gun owners. I'm sure some are aghast that I don't have any good single shot arms, either a Contender or Encore or even an NEF Handi-Rifle. There's only two single action revolvers in the entire G. armory, and both are .22s (and one is the NAA mini-revolver) - serious lack of CAS goodies.

But the one area where I really want to pick something up is the pistol caliber carbine. Specifically, I find myself wanting to pick up one of the Kel-Tec SUB2000 rifles more and more. It would have to be one set up to accept Sig P226 9mm magazines, since I have over a dozen pre-bans for it - although one set up for Glock 17 magazines would allow a pre-ban 33 rounder, which has a certain appeal to it as well. Then again, the Beretta PX4 Storm takes 92 magazines, and there are plenty of pre-ban 15- and 17- rounders, some 20s, and I think there's even some larger.

Other, far less possible/probable/affordable/reasonable options would be an Uzi carbine (way too expensive for semi-auto), a Hi-Point (not likely for many reasons), or a Marlin Camp Carbine (also pretty rare and low-capacity, although in the manly .45 ACP. Also possible but doubtful would be Robb's favorite, the KRISS (which, set-up to take Glock 21 mags would be sweet, although not $2K worth of sweet). Basically, I'd want something that I could rig up with a moderate red dot sight, a 15-20 round magazine, and maybe a vertical foregrip and light.

(from Kel-Tec site)

Sure would make a sweet house gun, especially a SUB2000 that shares mags with the Sig P226...

That is all.

Jay, I have one of the Sub2000s, with the Glock mag set-up. Check one out before buying, because the trigger is indescribably bad. It's like a staple gun. Very heavy, sharp too small in the trigger guard making it easy to pinch your finger. In other words the trigger is like a personal torture device.

Got enough magazines and ammo for the current ,errr..., collection?

There has to be a time when you stop acquiring and starting filling in the gaps. And there is always reloading, it might be time.

Little Brother-

I've played with the KRISS... They are very nice- there's a used one here at the local gun store for $1500. I'm very tempted.

There is another hole that you seem to have missed (or perhaps the MA laws are restrictive of?)...
Is there a derringer in the vault?
(the old-style one or two-shot break-open model, not an LCP, although that might fit the broad definition).
I have the Bond Arms Snake Slayer in .45/.410 - it's a handful of thunder.

I really like my sub 2000... too bad it went tits up on me.

I also have a Ruger PC 9. Look around and see if you can dig one up.

It is a bomb proof gun. and you already have a 10/22 understudy.

My friend has a Kriss and it is very cool...but after I shot a good group with it, I shot a one hole group (only 7 yds) with my Ruger. Not really fair because the PC 9 had a red dot and I could not get the Kriss down on a rest with the 30 round mag. But the Kriss cost 8 times as much.

Q: are the Kriss mag extensions legal in MA if you use a pre-ban G 21 mag???

Motor-T,

I do have a P3AT, so I am somewhat familiar with the crappy Kel-Tec trigger... :D

That's a good point, though - since it would be a plinker/HD gun, the trigger is of supreme importance...

ASM826,

I could use some more magazines (couldn't we all, really?), and as for ammo, well, ditto. Those I can pick up here and there, though. I am *always* on the lookout for pre-ban magazines (in fact, I scored two pre-ban 30 rounders for my 10/22 when I got the Savage!).

And stop acquiring? Heresy! :D

TBG,

I haven't seen a Kriss here for less than $1750. Even at $1500, that's an awful lot more than I'd want to spend for what is, essentially, a curiosity. For that much, I'd rather get a pre-ban AR-15 lower and a 9mm upper - Uzi mags are plentiful and cheap...

And yes, there is a Derringer in the G. armory...

Eck,

The only .22 Mag I'd consider, really, would be a NAA mini-revolver with the top break. I'm just not a big fan of a rimfire round that costs as much as centerfire...

MSJ,

The attraction of the SUB2000 is that I already have the magazines for it. Getting a PC9 means *another* set of magazines to acquire (and mark up so I can tell them apart!)

I think if I were going to go that route, I'd look for a Camp Carbine in .45 ACP and a replacement stock...

You really need to get on the stick and go to a full auto. Jack. (one-eyed Jack).

Jack,

Believe me, I've thought about it. I've got my C&R license, which is one of the prerequisites for getting the green card (MG license in MA).

If I found myself with a spare $5-7K I'd be tempted to look into either an AC556 or a M2 carbine. Getting a MAC-10 or other entry level MG just doesn't appeal to me - plus, knowing guys like Paul from State Line guns and Wally and Matt P. from SWR Manufacturing
has spoiled me...

The other thing, too, is that I just don't see the point in getting an MG while I'm still in MA - once I move to NH and can buy drums and such, that's another story entirely... :)

I have a Beretta CX-4 Storm in .40S&W, I love it.
I used to have one in .45ACP, but my buddy wanted it and I needed a .40 S&W carbine for my "Rifle/pistol" combo in that caliber.

It's light, so the 9mm would probably be the easiest to shoot.

The problem with them in .40S&W and .45ACP is that they no longer make the magazines for them.
You have to get an adapter for them to take either 96 or PX-4 mags.
I just got the adaptor yesterday, but the guy at Beretta didn't tell me I needed to replace the mag release too, so I'm waiting on that.
It still bothers me that they don't make mags for it, I just don't trust some "adaptor" shoved into my carbine.

When I go full auto, I want a Thompson. I have a new one (semi-auto) but I would love to have a real one.

You need a single-action revolver to go with that Marlin lever-gun ... assuming the Marlin is a pistol caliber rifle.
Heck, you need a center-fire single-action any way.

The trigger on my Kel Tek(P226) isn't to bad, well after about 500 rounds. Mounting a red dot takes some work no rails but you can get them.

Jay, have you thought about an AR in 9mm? Very simple, common platform, and can be fed from the very abundant and inexpensive (8-12 ea) pre ban uzi mags. And I know a guy who would be willing to build one for you...

Dont hold your breath looking for a preban 33rd glock mag. They are hens teeth and typically run well over a hundred bucks.

You need a Saiga.

Or you could go 'old school".

You-tube stripped all the sound because I didn't have permission from ZZ Top to have "Gun Love" playing as I loaded it.

So if you watch it- put on Gun Lovr and pretend you hear bangs instead of the modern crack.

...AND it's probably legal in Mass. because I mail opdered it from Cabellas straight to my house.

But you still need a bullpup Mosin!

I have the sub 2K in .40 with 31 round Glock mags. Needed a bit of tweaking and care but it's doing well. The sights though are terrible as far as my experience. But it fits quite well in my soft sided leather briefcase with a 31 round mag installed.Talk about executive protection tools!

I like my Hi-Point .40 Carbine. Pretty accurate out to 100 yards and it has never had a stoppage with decent ammo. (I've shot some real cheap reloads through it that had issues)

The price was more than right.

Auto Ordnance sells semi-auto Tommy guns. A friend has an original - very cool but weighs like a cinder block.

I love my Ruger PC9. It takes the same mags as the same caliber Ruger P series pistols and it was available in 9 and 40. The PC rifles were made during the 94 AWB so they should be Mass compliant, right?

You need a grenade launcher, ahem, flare gun attached below one of your assault rifles. Heh.
