Unreal X2...

I would add "only in MAX2" except that this kind of idiocy and wastefulness isn't limited to Massachusetts. Sent in by commenter and blogshoot attendee stickman is this lovely story out of MA:

Gloucester police/fire: 'Homeland' camera leads to arrest in snowball assault

A 27-year-old Gloucester man is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct after he allegedly fired a barrage of snowballs at city police officers when they responded to an argument in front of Latitude 43 on Rogers Street early Saturday morning.

According to police, Keane Kirlan, 27, was identified after police found him by monitoring the city's Homeland Security camera on Rogers Street. He was arrested later Saturday morning.

1. "Assault with a dangerous weapon"? For a snowball?
2. A "barrage" of snowballs? Did he use a high capacity snowball feeding device?
3. They used a Homeland Security camera to find the guy rather than just chasing after him?
4. Why the hell does Gloucester rate a Homeland Security camera? Are they trying to get footage for "Girls Gone Wild"?

It sure seems like a lot of expense and work to track someone down for throwing snowballs...

That is all.

A lot of expense and work to track down one offender . . . hmmmm. Me thinks this sounds like H.1561, the recently submitted MA bill to impose micro-stamping.

Asswipes.

Two on Ten Pound Island;

One at the Gloucester Mill building on Railroad Avenue.

St. Peter's Square;

One looking across the harbor from the Coast Guard station;

Tell me again about the limits of the Patriot Act, how we're only going to use for terrorists, how we have nothing to to worry about.

#4: Port Security Grants.

DHS covers the ports in general, I imagine.

ASM: Nothing in this has anything at all to do with the Patriot Act.

It's always been assault to hit anyone with a snowball - and cops especially don't like it, and can just arrest you themselves directly.

Hey, glass is half-full here. At least you don't live in DC:

PATRIOT Act. Ironic. Wasn't the Boston Massacre triggered by people throwing snowballs at redcoats?

One time in Philly shipyards, my ship was in drydock and we had a "berthing barge" tied up next to it. It snowed pretty good and some of us were having a minor snowball fight on the top deck. One snowball missed and went over the side, and just happened, completely by accident (no, really!), to hit an officer that was walking by on the dock. Boy, did THAT start the Spanish Inquisition!
