That's Gotta Sting!

Obama orders resumption of military commissions at Guantanamo

Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama announced Monday that the United States will resume using military commissions to prosecute alleged terrorists held at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility.

In the announcement, the president said his administration remains committed to closing the controversial detention facility but will rescind its previous suspension on bringing new charges before military commissions. The commissions are military proceedings rather than trials in civilian courts.

Yup. Øbama's not closing Gitmo; in fact, he's crankin' her back up again. You remember Gitmo, don't you? That's the evil place that Chimpy McHaliburton and Darth Cheney crafted in the very likeness of Mordor itself to house Boy Scouts and choirboys, closed only through the non-violent revolution that swept Barack Øbama and his gasoline pissing unicorns into office. The torture of political prisoners was over! Those poor prisoners - you know, the ones given prayer mats, Korans, and directed towards Mecca, the ones that gained weight in custody - would be set free to go back to their countries of origin and resume their careers as florists and child care providers.

Wait, you mean that mean ol' Bush did something right? If the Teleprompter Jesus himself is cranking things back up, obviously there's a need for that kind of prison, right? So which is it? Was Bush right? Is Øbama wrong? Is it possible that the Democrats took a complex political issue, dumbed it down for a bumpersticker soundbite, then released it for mass consumption? Four legs good, two legs bad? We on the right feel your pain - we remember the sting of "Read my lips: no new taxes".

And speaking of lips, in the words of a former president, you (lefties) might want to put some ice on that...

That is all.

While the Obamafreude is tasty as usual, Gitmo is a national disgrace. It's a big flashing sign that points north-northwest and says "I'm with the hypocrite."

Like every other can this political generation has kicked down the road, it's only getting worse as time goes on. Charge'em and try'em or let'em go!

I wish you wouldn't be so serious and literal in your commentary.

Gitmo is a POW camp, which is what it should be. Although the truth is that none of the people interned there fit the definition of POW.

Instead, they are unlawful combatants, civilians in a war zone that engage in combat. Under the Geneva Accords, they are subject to summary trials by military tribunals and then can be executed.

So, aczarnowski, I agree with you. They should be tried in military courts and if found guilty, shot.

Funny how Barry had a HUGE Dog and Pony Show right after he was sworn in signing the Executive Order announcing that Gitmo was being closed within the year. But 2 years later, the World finds out via Press Statement that he LIED? Hosni Obama must be watching the news and realizing that if he doesn't have a place for the next batch of dissidents...err, terrorists coming out of the Fly-Over Country.....err, the Middle East (since his "Reaching Out and they'll Love Us" Plan was as useful as Chamberlain's "Peace in our Time" accord with Hitler), he might have to put them in the White House! Guess he doesn't need that Campaign Cash from Code Pink anymore, either.

Obama has shown real backbone once again! He has thrown his supporters a bone that he has no intention of doing namely his meaningles¬s reviews! And he has caved in to those who demand we trash the constituti¬on of the United States. Once again we see that Audacity without Courage is worthless. It seems to have continued to impress only one person in the entire country.
