Friday Gun Pr0n #211

Today's gun pr0n comes to us from the Uzdar-Hazy Air and Space Museum:

Old Testament Style

That's Charles Lindbergh's Winchester model 54 in .30-06 (G-d's Own Caliber, Old Testament) as well as some of the other survival gear Lindbergh typically brought on a flight mission with him "just in case". A .30-06 and 40 rounds of ammo ought to settle pretty much any issue, but just to be on the safe side ol' Charlie brought along a couple of pig-stickers too...

They were tougher in the old days, apparently...

That is all.

There's few things a man can't fix
With $700 and a .30-06,

as Jeff Cooper used to say. (This time I'll proofread before hitting send).

Are you saying that there are people who travel long distances without a rifle?

Mid-1960's and in his 60's, Lindbergh came up into the cockpit of a Pan-Am flight returning from Maui to SFO that the father of a buddy was piloting, and asked to run the controls - which they respectfully did allow - they recognized him. He tweaked the flaps and ailerons to point the nose down just a bit and adjusted the engines, and the plane picked up a bit of speed and slowed fuel consumption. He must have heard something and just had to go forward to correct it. He had taught our guys how to improve the P-38's combat-radius from 570 miles to 700-750 miles and still leave an hour reserve of fuel when he was out in the Pacific during WWII. McArthur found out he was helping the Navy and got pissed off - but not before he flew 30+ combat and bombing missions in P-38s and Corsairs as a civilian.

He also shot down at least two Japanese Zero fighters -- one from a Corsair, and another from a P-38.

Well, of course. It wasn't just for self-defense, it was for survival too. In a survival situation, a good size knife is the single best tool you can have.

Remember Rule 9: Never go anywhere without a knife.
