The lawyer representing the convicted software salesman expected to unleash a torrent of damaging testimony against Salvatore F. DiMasi is asking to be cut loose from the former House speaker’s corruption trial — just as it’s getting underway.
Attorney Robert Goldstein, who has been representing Joseph P. Lally Jr., 50, of North Reading, will meet this afternoon behind closed doors with U.S. District Court Chief Judge Mark L. Wolf to explain why he wants out, Wolf said this morning from the bench.
For those claiming that DiMasi is going down because of Chuck Turner and Diane Wilkerson... Guess again. There's no way in hell a MA Speaker of the House is going to do hard time. No way. You can take that to the bank. Some have opined that DiMasi is going to take a fall because Turner and Wilkerson were busted. While this would be nice - in that it would be refreshing to see a crooked MA pol pay the price - it ain't gonna happen. If there's one thing they do and do well, it's take care of their own.
DiMasi may face a stiff penalty, though - he might not get a radio show like Tom Finneran...
That is all.

Tar and feathers... since public hanging has gone by the wayside...
Didn't you folks use stocks at one time? Or was that just in Salem?
BTW we totally should encourage those in the courtroom to throw their hats into the court when the Guilty Verdict is read.
Three Felon Speakers in a row, that's a Hat trick in my book!
Could it be the defense lawyer wants to skip the country before the defendant starts to talk?
