Lurch-itis Strikes Again!

Allen Iverson to police: 'Do you know who I am?'

Atlanta (CNN) -- Former NBA star Allen Iverson launched an expletive-ridden tirade against police when a car belonging to him was pulled over for a traffic violation last week, at one point telling the officer, "Take the vehicle, I have 10 more," according to a police report.

Iverson, 35, was a passenger in a grey Lamborghini, spied by an Atlanta officer changing lanes without signaling about 6 p.m. on March 30, according to the police report obtained by CNN.

You know something? If you have to ask if someone knows who you are, maybe you aren't the big deal you think you are. Personally, I think the whole "failing to signal" thing is BS - they saw a fancy car and figured they'd pull them over and see what was going on. I don't even think it's a race thing - the dude driving the Lambo could have been purple for all they care, they just wanted to go through and see how big of a ticket they could write...

Not everyone worships at the altar of professional sports, Allen...

That is all.

Also mitigating against it being a "race thing" are the demographics of both Atlanta and the Atlanta Police Department, both of which are majority-black.

Changing lanes without signaling? That's an absolutely bogus reason to stop a vehicle. Doesn't make his response anything to be proud of, but really, if we have enough officers to make stops like this, we have too many officers.

Not to mention Iverson has been out of the NBA and was playing in Turkey last I heard.

I'm bettin that the LEO was just curious as to who was driving the Lambo. Chances are the LEO radioed in the plate before he made the stop and alrady knew who the car belonged to.

Had Iverson been polite and co-opretive, ( and assumed he would be recoginized) he would have gotten a "Have a nice day ".

Iverson went to my high school (several years behind me).

He was well-known as an asshole and a thug then -- the bowling alley brawl was no surprise (nor the fact that he was easily identified -- he WAS the Great Hope for the basketball team going all the way, after all)

I note he hasn't improved with age.

For comparison, a certain assistant coach at Northeastern U., also from Atlanta, who never made the NBA but whose career as a human being seems to be going better.

I can be absolutely certain it's not a race thing.

You can't even se OUT of a Lamborghinis side or back windows, never mind an officer being able to see in to them from a patrol car several cars behind it.

As it is a local news item down here, further investigation showed the car had a FAKE dealer drive-out tag, and had not been registered for at least two years.
