There Was A Time...

...when folks responded to simple, reasonable requests without being complete and utter asses about it.

Sadly, that time appears to have passed.

I won't name the offending party, as it appears the action in question was performed simply to increase the hits to their website. But when someone contacts you and says, hey, you're using my picture in a post without permission or attribution, could you take the post down - or at the least change the title to something less offensive to me - well, you have an obligation to acquiesce. "Borrowing" - I hesitate to use the word "stealing", which is really more appropriate - a picture is one thing. Being specifically told not to use it - especially with a title the originator does not agree with, is another.

The poster in question then comes on the aggrieved party's blog post about the incident and hurls accusations of bullying and threatening - and refuses, for all to see, to acquiesce to the simple request. Not content to coast on another blogger's notoriety, this person feels the need to become embroiled in a pissing contest over who affronted who.

Well, let's clear that up right now, shall we?

  • YOU put up the post with the objectionable title.

  • YOU stole the picture from the blogger in question.

  • YOU refused simple requests to remove or re-title the post.

In the parlance of a local radio station's weekly call-in routine, you're the douchebag in this situation pal.

There's this thing, it's called common decency. If you're using someone else's name in a manner in which they object, you stop using it. Period. Full stop. You don't attack the person whose name you are besmirching. You don't remove comments (seriously???) from the injured party because they call you out. You man up, apologize, and respond to the request. A different title was all that was asked for - this is not an unreasonable request by anyone's measure.

And as it stands, the title - the true bone of contention - is still there, left one can only assume in a pathetic bid for traffic. I'd urge the poster in question to reconsider that business model - I'd wager there's a lot more traffic lost over the poor form shown than will ever be gained by random Google hits. The number of folks who will be turned off from your site - and, by extension, your sponsors, as folks have made them aware of this issue - will outnumber those that click on the link for the title and remain readers.

Please, don't be that guy.

That is all.

As you alluded to his comments.... is this how he treats his own women? Like a bully?

"Please, don't be that guy."

Too late.

I'm with Alan on this one. He had his chance, and chose his response. I wish he had chosen to be decent about this, but it's too late now.

"I'd urge the poster in question to reconsider that business model"

This is the business model of a lot of the handful of anti-gun blogs. They capitalize on the people just looking to see the train wreck, or the handful of people who think they might be able to get a good debate in.

But in the end there are only a handful of people who are interested in that thing, and most of them are reading your blog out of contempt.

That's no way to win, and certainly no way to grow your readership.

Tho then again there are a few blogs that run their whole model off of stealing others materiel against their wishes...and some might actually be supported by this site...

You mean like you support Joan Peterson?

If link=support, then you support Common Gunsense, right?

Really, it's getting tiresome.

As I posted at the lovely lady's site:

"Past performance is no guarantee of future results"

Apparently this statement applies to more than investments.

It is a disgusting violation. My girls and I have 25 followers! We are proud of that number. Every blogger hopes to be read but resorting to tactics such as these are completely despicable! Obviously he lacks a respect for women.

I love how you worded this post! You and others like you are why I like this community so much

I link her blog for the benefit of all. I think it helps all supporters of the 2nd Amendment to see how irrational and out-of-touch the high-ranking members of the opposition are.

What do you gain?

Tiresome.

That's one of many things I pointed out in my e-mail to said "man"

Let me just say that his response struck a nerve with me and I was, shall we say, less than cordial in my reply. He has not responded to that e-mail, which doesn't surprise me.

Even without everything else, a man who will not man up, take responsibility for his actions and say "I was wrong. I apologize" is a coward of the worst sort IMO.

I'll let it go, Jay.

You know what they say, Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and mine's pretty! ; )

I suspect the resulting Bredalanche has him furiously massaging his prostate with a turnip twaddler while wearing his dead grandmother's nightgown and sniffing his uncle's dirty, piss-stained y-fronts in ecstasy.

At least, that's what I said on my blog.

Been a while since I read the word "Turnip Twaddler!"

You got some good taste in Comics, Lady!

Great post!

Unfortunately, the type of person to take it down would be the type of person to not put it up to begin with. It is thoroughly disgusting.

I agree 100% with the outrage, but lets not forget we brought this on ourselves by using "...porn" attached to anything that was cool.

I worried about it when I first started seeing "gunporn" and now we see one of the results.

If you don't like it attached to someone you know and respect, why should you accept it attached to ANYTHING?

Wrong is wrong...
