Breaking (but not shocking) News...

Officer Roid Rage won't be getting fired.

Wizardpc points us to this story where we learn that the poor city of Canton has been suffering - SUFFERING - in the wake of this incident:

“The Canton Police Department’s operation and efficiency has been impaired due to negative phone calls and emails that have been fielded by its members (regarding the case),” the report says.

Excuse me.

BOO FUCKING HOO.

I've got a crazy idea! Maybe you wouldn't have so many negative phone calls if you would FIRE THIS PSYCHOTIC SHITBAG? Excuse the ever-loving shit out of me, but 16 goddamn internal investigations and you still keep this festering sore of a human being on your payroll? He threatens to execute a handcuffed person and you cite him for violating department rules like he wore jeans to work?

Officer Roid Rage is going to kill someone. His entire career, he's been a bully and a thug with a badge, and he's been getting away with it. He's going to keep pushing until he finally snaps, no longer content to merely threaten suspects, and he's going to kill someone.

And when it happens, I hope the next of kin sues the city of Canton into receivership.

That is all.

From the actual article:

"In a letter to Harless, Police Chief Dean McKimm said after reviewing the report, he finds there is evidence that the officer violated the three rules cited by internal affairs. ***Harless faces punishment ranging from 30 days off work to being fired***, McKimm said.

SNIP!

Harless was put on paid administrative leave in June and more recently went on sick leave. Harless is using his allotted and accumulated sick days, which is paid time off work, McKimm said."

Emphasis mine.

I agree, he should be fired. I travel to NE Ohio often enough that I will be actively avoiding Canton until he is. However, we live in a nation of laws and we have set up our police depts to have internal affairs investigations and processes. Officer Harless is no more guilty of a crime than Bartlett is *until he has been convicted of such by a court of law*.

So this is not a case of the Canton PD not firing Harless, its a case of the Canton PD following the usual procedure for these things.

The driver should go free, he should be made whole again after his trauma and legal costs and missed work. The officer should be fired and charged criminally and convicted. We are not savages, both should receive their due through the appropriate processes which exist to deal with these problems.

Amen! We have quite a few of his best friends here in Southern Nevada. I think they are all in a club or something. At least here they do eventually wise up and get rid of the jerks. Of course usually they have to be caught on film first or involved in a lethal force issue. Ugggg....

I will happily and cheerfully retract each and every word if - and that's a big if - Officer Roid Rage is terminated.

I won't hold my breath, though.

Fired, Hell. He ought to be face charges and rot in jail if he can't make the bail as the rest of us would do.

And before anyone accuses me of being anti-police, I served four years as a peace officer.

The fact that Officer Roid Rage is using up his accumulated sick days tends to indicate he doesn't expect the Infernal Affairs hearing to go well.

He threatened to murder that guy, right there. "I could put ten rounds in your head right now!"

He is a disgrace.

Bob,

He could also be living paycheck to paycheck.

I'd wager someone who has as little control over his emotions as Officer Roid Rage probably doesn't have a savings account and a 401K, yanno?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and when I go to the NC shoot, I'm damn sure not going ANYWHERE near Canton...

He should be PROSECUTED, his losing his job as a police officer should be merely a side-effect of being sentenced to jail!

Mikael said...

Oh and his victim should sue Canton so hard that a lot of heads will roll.

If you haven't heard, a third dashcam video has surfaced of Harless threatening to shoot and kill someone (not to mention engaging in a unjustified stop and fishing expedition):

KBC beat me to the 3rd vid. Perfect timing, eh?

Yep. Third time's the charm, so they say.

Just how many *MORE* incidents like there *are* there?

And, more importantly, how many *more* are needed until they fire this pustule?

I wonder how many of his colleagues are ready to lynch him for endangering them.

Most cops post 9/11 are jack-booted thugs and bullies. Note: I said most not all and these IDIOTS are making the good guys suffer for what they do. However a good point is this: According to the Chief, "Harless was put on paid administrative leave in June and more recently went on sick leave. Harless is using his allotted and accumulated sick days, which is paid time off work, McKimm said." Sounds like he may resign as most gov't jobs won't pay you for sick days not taken. But, I won't hold my breath.
