Run Up The Score!

Brad_in_MA sends in the latest DGC addition, from the Show Me state Land of Lincoln:

Metro-East pawn shop owner shoots at robbers, killing one
(KMOV.com) -- An investigation has been initiated after a Metro-East pawn shop owner shot at two robbers, killing one.

Police said the robbery and shooting happened Saturday morning at the Pawn Pros pawn shop at the corner of 12th and State streets in East St. Louis, Illinois.
The story indicates that the deceased robber used to work at the pawn shop, which just makes this an even dumber move - shouldn't he have known that someone there might be armed? Many pawn shops take in firearms as part of their stock in trade; as a result, pawnshop employees tend to take measures akin to those in gun shops. Sounds like he got blind to the reality and thought about the money and shiny things rather than the guns, though... Good guys won this round, though!

We're closing in on 200 - would be nice to hit before Halloween!

Dead Goblin Count: 190

That is all.

Side note: I had a couple folks send me the story about the retired Detroit cop who dispatched a robber in a McDonalds. I elected to leave it off the count mainly because it was a retired cop who did the shooting - even though MI is pretty decent about firearms and carry permits (well, compared to MA, anything is decent), there's still a "protect your own" vibe for retired cops that gave this shooter more leeway than a "retired hospital worker" or "retired IT guy" might get...

I think that the pawn shop goblin underestimate the resolve (or the reflexes) of his erstwhile employers.

If the goblin had actually turned to leave the shop, I doubt reflexes were involved. If that incident had happened in New York and the goblin was indeed leaving when he was shot, the shopkeeper would be facing charges.

Dunno Dave. It's possible that the ex-employee, upon realizing that he was looking at a one-way ticket to jail since he was easily identifiable, decided to leave no witnesses and turned to start shooting...

Wouldn't be the first time that a simple robbery turned into a massacre...

Your intro is wrong, though.
Missouri is the Show Me State. According to the article, the pawn shop is in East St Louis, Illinois.
Still, it's not Chicago, so he may not be charged.
