Trying To Lose the "New" in "New England"...

Stretch sent this to me last week. It is to facepalm...

Knife Safety
(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - When we think about weapons, most of our minds go directly to guns, but there is a growing problem in the city: the use of knives in violent situations. Two Boston City councilors are looking for a way to make the sale of knives more difficult.
Listen to the video. There is nothing proposed as far as who can or can't buy a "knive" (councilor Ross's word). It's all about licensing stores that might happen to sell knives. They're pushing it as a "public safety loophole" that stores can sell cutlery without specific licenses - yet there are no proposals on who can or can't purchase, just that stores get a license.

I like how they infer of some nefarious link between stores selling knives and the "1300 stabbings over the past 3 years". Yeah. It's the fault of the crappy imitation Buck knife sold at the 7-11 that Massachusetts has a positively abysmal record of prosecuting violent assault. You've just got to love the chutzpah of a guy who will gleefully shrug off the state's responsibility to incarcerate criminals in favor of slapping more restrictions on lawful commerce.

They also never really answer the question of which knives are at issue. I have a butcher's knife in my cutting block that is as sharp or sharper than any other knife I possess. Are they going to cover the Henckels for sale in the upscale boutiques? Or are they just going after the POS folding knives in the corner stores? There's no distinction - they just want the license paid.

Scratch a nanny statist, find someone looking to expand the state power *and* rake in that sweet coin...

That is all.

Anti-freedom NOT Anti-gun.

They may talk about banning guns, but they'll also ban trans fats, salt shakers, knives, gasoline engines etc etc.

You should visit www.kniferights.org as similar legislation in New York was defeated by them.

Note on the CAPTCHA. How did they know about me being single? Nomate (no mate)

I think that Jonah Goldberg said it best on National Review, "Under each and every liberal is a tiny authoritarian dying to get out". Proven every time.

When a knife, trauma shears, or rescue hook could have prevented this tragedy. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-freeway-fatal-neighborhood-20110828,0,1954709.story

Many's the time I wished I could change my legislators' attitudes from "we have to do something!" to "we have to do something useful!"

Barring that, I'd be happy to continue paying their salary if they'd just sit still and not do anything. Gridlock isn't always a bad thing.

And if I take a piece of steel and an anvil and make one the old fashioned way? Probably illegal there in The State You Should Be Fleeing™.
