Firefighter fends off home invasion, kills attacker
(WMC-TV) - Memphis police are searching to the people who broke into the home of a Memphis firefighter and shot him. Investigators said the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 7800 block of Winoak Lane, where several people entered the firefighter's home and tried to over power him.
Apparently they grow firefighters big and tough in Memphis, because the firefighter in question was not only outnumbered, but they shot him first and he still got to his gun, shot one of them dead, and survived the encounter. That's pretty badass right there.

Brad_in_MA sends in not one but two additions in one story:
Police: Intruder killed in St. Louis home
ST. LOUIS • For the second time since Friday, police say an intruder has been killed in a St. Louis home. The property owner shot the alleged burglar to death just before 1 a.m. today at a home in the 5600 block of Maple Avenue.
Again, as with most DGC addition stories, there are precious few facts. Reporters need to start asking the real tough questions like "what caliber did you use" and "what brand firearm was it". Alas, we're left with naught but the warm glow of knowing a goblin has been dispatched by a homeowner and not the reverse...

That's not the only one, though:
About 72 hours earlier, a similar fatal shooting happened in St. Louis' Fox Park neighborhood. Police already determined that shooting was justified, O'Sullivan said Monday. In that case, a housesitter was at a home being rehabbed in the 2800 block of Magnolia Avenue when he heard someone breaking in the back door at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Repeat zombie home invaders? St. Louis may have more than just a crime problem. ;)
