U.S. Army Post Honors Soldier, Dog Killed in Iraq
DENVER – A dog park at a Colorado Army post is being named in honor of an Oregon soldier and his military working dog who were killed together in Iraq.Neither had any ties to the CO Army post; the post just felt it was a nice thing to do. It's also interesting to note that Corporal Wiens and Cooper were buried together. There's just something fitting about that; I understand that the training for folks that work with dogs in a professional setting tends to bind the two; obviously this carries through even in extremis.
Cpl. Kory Wiens and the Labrador retriever named Cooper will be remembered at a ceremony Friday at Fort Carson just outside Colorado Springs.
