Police: Armed Billerica Teacher Stole Drugs, Money
BILLERICA (CBS) – A Billerica middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with armed robbery.Not only that, but her accomplice maced the guy, adding an assault & battery charge to armed robbery as well as possession of narcotics. This teacher just ended her teaching career and is likely to face many years in jail as a result of her drug addiction. It's going to be hard for her to pursue her vocation as a teacher when she can't pass a CORI check.Jennifer Horton, a 27-year-old teacher at Marshall Middle School, is accused of sticking a gun in the victim’s face to steal prescription drugs and money.
She was placed on paid leave, which is rather infuriating. If I held up a liquor store, odds are pretty good that I would find myself without a job PDQ - yet because she's a municipal employee, she gets paid all through the trial. One assumes that the pay would stop if she is convicted; however the fact that she's going to draw a salary - draining much-needed funds from the school district while producing noting - points to the power of collective bargaining.
On the bright side, she's still eligible to run for mayor of DC...

Just to play the devil's advovate here..... Isn't she innocent until proven guilty by a jury of her peers? That's the way things are SUPPOSED to work in this freedom-loving country, correct? And if she is still innocent, should she be fired from her job?
I have to say, I'm generally in favor of employers waiting until conviction before firing people.
Innocent until proven guilty in a courtroom, not innocent until the news decides otherwise.
Firing or not firing is one thing. It's the "with pay" part that's my sticking point...
Uh, but she's free to roam the Streets, while her accomplish is MIA, and she gets to keep her paycheck coming until she get Convicted in a Trial or she Cops a Plea. And I believe any money that went into her Union Pension Fund is still hers to keep. Add in the Fact that "Drug Addiction" is considered a "Disabilty", she could probably get those Benefits also.
So we have a case where this Lady probably went to school on the Federal Dime, got a Gooberment Job in the School System, will be housed, fed and incarcerated under the Tax Payers Dime, and could get more Gooberment Money when she is released. And she could probably get some sort of Job at a Private University (HARVARD) as a "Adjunct" if she complains enough about how the "System" is "Prejudiced against Women" like her.
Explain to me how she is being Punished.
I read that and wondered "How many people know how to properly pronounce Billerica?"
It is interesting that she was placed on paid leave. It makes it appear as if they are doubtful whether she did it or not.
I bet somewhere she has one of those,"I'm the 99%," signs.
