Most of the unemployed no longer receive benefits
See? Unemployment's going down! Proof that the TARP package that was supposed to keep unemployment below 10% is working! We have always been at war with Eastasia!WASHINGTON (AP) - The jobs crisis has left so many people out of work for so long that most of America's unemployed are no longer receiving unemployment benefits.
Early last year, 75 percent were receiving checks. The figure is now 48 percent - a shift that points to a growing crisis of long-term unemployment. Nearly one-third of America's 14 million unemployed have had no job for a year or more.
It's frightening just how Orwellian this administration has been - the media's still cheerleading the "recovery" despite all evidence to the contrary; the OccupySomething protests, while destroying private property and hurting the very people they claim to represent, are "gaining support"; we're essentially dealing with a less competent version of Pravda.
I can't shake the image of Chip Diller telling us not to panic...
That is all.

It amuses me when they publish figures about how the number of people drawing jobless benefits is going down so therefore the economy is getting better but they never go into how they arrive at the figures.
Not mention how the numbers are usually revised a week later in a negative direction.
While I realize that unemployment is rising, it irks me to no end that there is a massive shortage in labor in technical fields that pay well, and in other, more disparate fields like mine, where it's really, really difficult to recruit greenhorns with a halfway decent work ethic, despite a fantastic starting salary, full benefits and 13-26 weeks of vacation a year. It makes me question just how desperate people are- there's a huge gap between desirable jobs and available jobs.
The only thing more unbelievable then watching the lying labor department trying to sell that UNCHANGING 9% unemployment figure for the past three years is watching the fellating media as they do the do the same.
Sounds more like Baghdad Bob to me.
Chip Diller?
All is welllllllllll!!!
