Please Clone This Sheriff...

Reader chefjk sends in this heartwarming story of a law enforcement official that gets it.

Sheriff: Time For Citizens To Arm Themselves
The Spartanburg County Sheriff is known for speaking his mind, and at a news conference on Monday, he didn't hold back his anger and frustration after a woman was attacked in a park over the weekend.

Investigators said 46-year-old Walter Lance grabbed a woman who was walking her dog in Milliken Park on Sunday afternoon. They said Lance choked the woman, made her take off her clothing and tried to rape her. (Full Story)
Apparently Lance is the kind of criminal we see here in MA all the time, the frequent flier. He's in and out of jail on minor and not-so-minor offenses, let out by a lax justice system with slaps on the wrist and stern warnings not to do it again. Which, of course, he does.

The whole article is full of QOTDs like this one:
Wright said,"Liberals call me and tell me the chain-gang form of justice isn't working. Well, let me inform you, your form of justice isn't working either."
Wright counsels women in the area to arm themselves - a refreshing change from the "we discourage self help" attitude so prevalent here in MA. Law enforcement types - particularly those that get in front of cameras - are often reluctant to suggest that a victim or potential victim arm themselves with a firearm to protect themselves against the violent predators that our "justice" system so depressingly often turns loose. It's heartening to see that not all law enforcement heads are against citizens carrying firearms for defense - and one can imagine that getting a permit in Spartanburg County should be a pleasant experience (compared to MA, f'rinstance).
I like this man. More like him please.

That is all.

If I recall correctly, South Carolina is a "Shall Issue" state. Fix that and many of your Peoples Republic of Massachusetts problems with fire arms will go away. Keep pushing for liberty.

Reminds me of the North Carolina cop I chatted with in the airport -- he suggested changing the motto to "We can't be there in time to save you but we'll try to pick up the pieces afterward."
