Blog Sound Bytes...

Here's a collection of stories sent in by different folks. Some are infuriating, some are interesting, some will just leave you scratching your head...

  • Gun sales without background check easy on Internet, mayors group says - The [mostly law-abiding] Mayors Against Illegal Guns have tried to put a different shade of polish on the "gun show loophole" turd. This time it's private sales that originate over the internet. Ho hum. Boy, it should be against Federal law to sell a gun to a prohibited person - oh, wait, it already is. Yawn.*
  • Fast and Furious Scandal Gives Rise to Gun Regulation Debate - something we on the pro-freedom side have been saying all along is that "Fast and Furious" - the ill-advised, conceived, and executed "plan" for the ATF to arm Mexican drug gangs - was merely a thin cover to push for more gun control. Because the ATF illegally sold guns to Mexican gangs, I should be reported for buying more than one rifle a week. Riiiight. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.*
  • State police defy order to release Lt. Gov. Tim Murray crash data - in clear defiance of the Freedom of Information Act, the MA State police are refusing to release data obtained from Lt. Governor Tim Murray's car after his serious crash last month. Murray left I-190 and demolished his state-issued Ford Crown Victoria in what Murray called "a 5 MPH fender bender" (okay, he didn't really, but that's how the MA SP are handling it. What are they hiding, and why???**
  • Tea Party Leader Arrested After Attempting to Check in With Gun at Airport - proving that the Tea Party is just as dangerous as the OWS, one of the leaders of the movement was arrested for firing a gun at random in a crowded airport not being 100% certain of the state laws compared to the FOPA Act... He had the gun in a locked box and was checking it in as required, but New York thinks it is better than Federal law, so...*
  • Holyoke Police Sgt. John Hart suspended after losing sniper rifle - because I'm the only one professional enough to lose a $2,000 rifle out of the bed of my pickup truck... Apparently not taught as part of sniper school is how to properly transport your rifle so it doesn't just fall out of your vehicle... But he was fined!***

I report, you deride...

That is all.

Perhaps also worthy of note

The Washington Times piece on Obamagate, fast & furious.
Some news organizations have taken notice of it.

RE Tea Party: Something else to think about. Let's just say (Hypothetically Speaking of Course), that a Gun Blogger chooses in a few weeks time to go to Vegas for the SHOT Show. He checks the Nevada.Gov WebSite, and yes, they have Reciprocity with Mass. He books his Flight, and finds out the best deal is one that takes him from Logan to JFK, but he has to deplane, get his luggage, and check in on a different Airline. He does so, goes to the next Airline's Counter, with his Snubbie From Hell and Ammo and Dragonleatherworks Talon Holster all nice and sealed in the TSA approved Box and says to the Ticket Agent "I need to check this Firearm..."

Les,

It's even worse than that.

I could be on a flight from MA to NV that has a connecting flight in PA. Or MI. Or even GA. Anywhere in "free America" works.

Now, let's say a snowstorm rolls in and the plane gets diverted to La Guardia. If we have to deplane and wait, or take a car, or anything else, I could be in violation of NY law- but covered under Federal law.

Through no fault of my own, through circumstances completely beyond my control, I could be in very much the same position.

Now see why I am hesitate to fly with guns?

Les,

Why wouldn't you check the bag all the way through? Especially if you can't carry in the connecting state anyway?

Maybe it's being from Alaska, where every trip back East requires making a connection in Seattle or another hub, but unless I plan on leaving the connecting airport for an overnight stay, my bag stays checked.

re: Teaparty guy -- http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmem...ith_handgu.php

publius2009 has a comment there (drill down for it) with his itinerary from Sunday thru Thursday making the talkshow and lecture circuit. Absent magic beans I'm thinking he brought his heater to NYC and was trying to take it home. I'm thinking this was not merely NY not being willing to allow FOPA travel.

stay safe.

A comment on Arpaio: I hate admitting this, but in his case, they're right. That guy is nuts. Like, George Wallace and Bull Connor racist; its easy, effective, and he doesn't care. The Maricopa County Sheriffs Dept arrests mostly landscapers and day laborers, and yes, they are illegal immigrants, but spends far less time and resources interdicting the violent street gangs that roam the area. He goes for the easy, non-violent targets, and arrests in bulk. His sweeps are publicized events, wherein he sends deputies down a street arresting people for being brown. He's every bit the statist/fascist of the gun-grabbers, with a different target. I lived there, and my wife and I left this spring- Arizona is not safe, and Arpaio, for all his talk about rounding up criminals, lets the worst of them skate by, while he picks the low-hanging fruit. Not a fan.
