Man shot, killed after breaking into Chadbourn home
News reports later confirmed that the homeowner did in fact fire the fatal shot; one can only wonder if the "eye-witnesses" all had red-tipped canes. Investigators are trying to figure out if the man was shot by a resident of the home or his own partner in crime.
Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning residents of this home on North Wilkes Street in Chadbourn say two men forced their way in. They kicked in the door, knocking the frame loose. On the other end a frightened resident who was willing to defend himself.

The dead suspect has a misdemeanor conviction for Wanton Injury to Real Property from 2005.

Eyewitness accounts of an event can vary widely. it's not unusual to read them and wonder if everyone was truly seeing the same events.
