No charges filed against motel manager, police say

A motel manager who fatally shot a man at an inn in northeast Houston this morning has not been charged or arrested, officials said.

The shooting happened about 1 a.m. at the Legacy Inn at 3625 Tidwell near Dodson, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said the man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

The article is pretty thin on specifics, but it sure sounds like the guy did his best to get himself shot. Destruction of property, refusing to leave, following the manager into the office and continuing to be violent; if he was trying to get himself shot he couldn't have behaved any worse. "Acting erratically" isn't enough justification to be shot; however "acting violently and following someone into their business where you start breaking their stuff" most certainly is - there's simply no guarantee that the dude wouldn't decide to start breaking people next.
