Merah emerged from a bathroom in his apartment and fired more than 30 shots at police as they burst in to end a standoff that had lasted more than 31 hours, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said.
He jumped out a window, still shooting, and was found dead on the ground, Interior Minister Claude Gueant said.While he was a terrorist scumbag, he was at least a tenacious terrorist scumbag. And now he's a room temperature terrorist scumbag, the very best kind. Flowers smell a little sweeter. Toilets flush a little easier. It's interesting, though; the French take a lot of crap (and deservedly so) but when it comes time to doing the right thing - like sinking Greenpeace's ship or shooting a stinking terrorist in the head - they're right out there doing it.
Life is a little better every time a terrorist asshole gets shot in the grape.

Nice going on the part of the French police. That kind of evil needs to be stopped and rooted out where ever it's found.

We can (and should) laugh at France's inability to win full-scale wars, but when it comes to counter-terrorism, they don't mess around.
They shot him in the head as he flew backwards off the ledge shooting back at them? Wow.
The trial will not be lengthy.
We give France a lot of grief, but we need to remember that it's the French government that makes them such a juicy target for derision. People like the members of the French Resistance in WWII had better ideas.

Instead of shooting him in the head they would have formally called him antisocial. Maybe even lodged a formal notice of antisocial behavior. Then let him go telling him not to be antisocial anymore or they shall be forced to write another note.
They would have tapped his melon had they found him naked and facedown in the bathroom. The LAST thing that the French wanted was a public trial. This is much neater.
Problem is, now they'll 'say' he was never a 'real' terrorist... no proof...
The French military has rather deservedly had a good bit of fun had at their expense, but the French justice apparatus? Not so much. They were still using the guillotine till '77. Like Tam said, "only the Germans have a quicker Zero-to-Jackboots time than the Frogs".
And southern France is . . . different from Paris et al. If they are trying to claim that the late and unlamented was not part of an Islamist conspiracy, then they've let too much info onto the 'Net for that to happen. The Jawa Report and several other sites have articles up about this guy's connections to Francophone jihadist networks and websites. His brother getting caught with explosives in his car didn't help, either.

The media and the left (OK, they are the same) are heartbroken that this murderer turned out to be a Muslim terrorist.
They were so hoping that it was a right wing neo Nazi, Bush loving, white guy because that plays so much better in their narrative.
And I get no pleasure at all from being right in calling this when the "real" media was spinning tales of disgruntled French paratroopers being behind the murders.
