About As Expected...

Stretch sent me this figuring it'd raise my blood pressure. Sadly, it's far too par-for-the-course for Massachusetts to get much of a rise out of me.

Illegal alien accused in death may go free — without trial
An illegal alien accused of running down a disabled Waltham man in a crosswalk the day before Thanksgiving, then fleeing the scene, may be deported to Guatemala a free woman without ever standing trial.

Federal officials, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the victim’s heartbroken parents are calling the impending release of Blanca Contreras a nightmare.
Now, it was a Federal judge that issued the order to deport, so this is not entirely the fault of Massachusetts. Mind you, it's aided and abetted by the mindset of "it's not illegal to be illegal" - MA bends over backwards to accommodate illegal aliens - in-state tuition, driver's licenses, SS cards, etc. Add to that the general coddling that criminals in general get - plus the fact that Massachusetts "discourage[s] self help" - and it's not surprising in the least that an illegal who might commit crimes would want to be in MA.

The question I have is why the hell an illegal alien charged with murder was let out of jail on cash bail. Obviously she was a flight risk - she's an illegal alien, for cryin' out loud. "Blanca Contreras" vanishes, "Esmerelda Consuela" shows up three towns over, and she goes and gets another SS card, license, EBT card, etc. So why, then, on a vehicular manslaughter charge (or negligent homicide, why would she be let out on bail?

Letting her out forced the immigration judge's hand - he had two choices: either deport her, or set her free. With her out on bail, if ICE fails to deport her and she vanishes, then she's truly off scot-free. However, why on earth they didn't deny the bail on a flight risk is beyond me - it would never have gotten immigration involved. Now she's going to be deported, and if I were a betting man, I'd wager that the time spent in Guatemala will be measured in minutes. She'll be back in the US before Memorial Day, mark my words.

And, thanks to a Massachusetts judge, she'll be back without a murder conviction - way to go Massachusetts!

That is all.

I'm probably late to the party, but in-state tuition? The many, many illegals in my wife's church all decry the fact that they DON'T get in-state tuition. When I point out that they don't pay taxes either, they get all pissy. I suspect that illegals who give a fake SSN can prob get away with it, but that's ID fraud, and a felony, anyhow. Not that it matters.

So George Zimmerman has to pay 15 grand cash, surrender his passport and wear an electronic tracker -- when no body considers him a flight risk but this person gets out on ONLY a cash bond?

The justice system is so twisted that it bears no relation to fairness in any degree.

@ Bob: To be fair, Zimmerman's case is in Florida, where they actually take criminal charges seriously. MA only seems to take them seriously if a gun is involved, and then only if it's committed by an otherwise law-abiding citizen.

Of course, I'm overlooking the ridiculously thin probable cause affidavit, which hints very strongly that Zimmerman should never have been charged in the first place. But then again, that same lack of evidence is probably the only reason he got bail at all.
