Buy A Gun Day...

...Was yesterday, which I totally missed in my wrapping up of the 141st Annual Meeting of the NRA. Between SHOT Show, the NRA Convention, and some personal vacation time this summer, money's a little on the tight side this year, so I'm making my S&W M&Ps my 2012 Buy A Gun Day Gun(s):

M&Ps!

I liked the Smith & Wesson M&P45 Full size and 9mm compact so much that I opted to buy them from Smith & Wesson at the end of the T&E period. This means that they are now eligible for a trigger job, so I have to decide if I want to get one of the Apex kits or have a gunsmith (cough, Wally, cough) do a "fluff'n'buff" on them. I'm leaning towards something like the duty kit for the 9mm and a competition kit for the 45, but might be amenable to duty for both.

So, what did everyone else get for Buy A Gun Day?

That is all.

I forgot to post a pic yesterday, so busy with networking at a tax day rally. I got ANOTHER Ruger 10/22, because one can never have enough 10/22s. This one was virtually NIB, and included a scope and 3 mags for a price so low I kept looking in the rearview all the way home expecting the cops to be coming after me any minute. The rifle was won in a raffle, and I got it for about what he paid for the raffle ticket and accessories. I have some plans for this one I think you are going to like........

I guess the whole Buy a Gun Day is predicated on getting a nice tax refund from Uncle Sam, and putting it towards a nice new gun.

If,however, you are sending the same Uncle Sam a bunch of money, that would kind of take the wind out your sails, now , wouldn't it?

Sitting becalmed in NH.

The gun show is coming to town this weekend. If I cannot find what I want then I'll be purchasing online. I will be purchasing a Sprinfield XDM 9mm 5.5 no later than April 30th.

A nice Henry Lever Action .22--load it up with about a bajillion .22 short CB rounds and you can have tons of fun without even needing earplugs!

LibertyMan: What's a refund? We still owed the tax man a shipload; basically about the equivalent
of a month's worth of my take home pay.

Wishing I was sitting in NH right now. I'd still be paying Uncle Sam, but I wouldnt also be paying the state tax that was increased in July but made retroactive to the first of the year.

I picked up a Glock 20 with eight mags and I picked up a Glock 26 for my sister for her new carry piece.

I bought my fiancee a shotgun, an Remington 870. What made really enjoyable was that she's a Canadian citizen.

I feel like such a subversive, and I like it. (grin)

Picked up a S&W 6906 :) They had free shipping so I couldn't resist!

I picked up a GSG 1911-22LR. Sweet little gun. Looks and feels just like a 1911 (except for the really light recoil spring) but shoots 22LR.

It doesn't take down like a regular 1911, but I can live with that.

Fun to shoot, little to no muzzle rise or recoil. I ran about 200 rounds though it and had one stovepipe and I have two mags that don't hold the slide back when empty.

My son isn't too fond of it - not enough recoil. He is even less fond of my complaining about how much his recoil junkie habit costs.

My wife thinks it was a late birthday present that I bought for myself. I'm trying to convince her that it is my BAG day gun and I'm going to order my birthday present next week...

The actual B of BAG was about 2 weeks ago. I have shot it a time or two since, but yesterday marked the competitive debut of my Mossberg 930 Jerry Miculek edition shotgun.

Aside from being a darling on the gun rack at each stage, it ran like a champ. I, however, ran like a chump.

Bought a gun on Saturday, does that count? Got a Hi Point 995 (old style - before they were accessorized to be tacti-cool). It was sold as a used gun, but doesn't look like it has ever been loaded, much less shot.

BAG ended up for me, thusly:

S&W Model 58, .41 Magnum, mfg. 1976. Former Beaumont, P.D. gun.

Ruger M-77 Mk1, .308. International (Mannlicher) stock, 18" bbl. Older version, red-pad, tang safety. Schweet!

For Iris, I got her the same S&W M&P 9mm Subcompact..... which matches the M&P .22 she bought for herself. (her very first gun purchase!)

Completed the "build" on my Rock River AR-15 lower, MEGA upper, 18" Lothar Walther bbl., 1/8 twist, .223 Wylde chamber, JP Precision trigger, Troy Viking handguard, ACE skeleton stock, Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 MOA scope.... and, it's giving 1/2 MOA with standard 68 gr. ammo. Looking forward to running some Federal Ultra Match through it!

"bought" a Remington R1 .45 at a Friends of the NRA banquet and auction. Ticket for the Wall of Guns raffle cost $10. I'm pretty happy.

My Ed Brown Kobra Carry, a week or so early but it has to be the ONE.

Two Ruger Vaqueros in .357. New gunbelt on the way to match them. Nice addition to my Blackhawks and Old Armies.

Winchester Ranger 94 30-30. Bought unexpectedly about a week ago when I made a stop at the gun store for something else. I call it my #17 eyepiece cover, because that's what I went in for. So my planned BAG purchase will have to wait.

Technically, we don't have to fill out Taxes until Midnight because of some Holiday inside the Beltway, but what the Hell: KelTec P-11. Lightweight Plastic, 9mm, Double Stack (with my size 2X Hands, ALL Single Stacks feel like I'm holding a Ruler), Horrible Trigger (but that seems to be Industry Standard nowadays),Cheap, Shoots to point of Aim, takes Smith 59 mags, American Made, Debugged, fits in MY Cargo Pockets,no little levers and Safeties ( just like a Revolver) and it just plain works.

Mine is a Charter Bulldog, .44SP. This being California I bought it on April 11 but I can't pick it up until April 22 thus I straddled BAG day. The mandatory waiting period has given me time to load a ton of ammo.

Ruger LC9. I ran six magazines through her yesterday (FMJ and HP) with no issues.

Oh, and and we wont be able to pick it up until the weekend, but Cher's BAG day gun is a Beretta Jetfire. Doubt she'll ever carry it, or even shoot it, but it was a decent deal and she didn't have one and who am *I* to argue with THAT logic?

I'm headed across the state on Friday and will be going right past Brownell's. I fully expect to give them a bit of money and leave with a stripped AR lower and a few tools.

I also bought an M&P9c, as my first firearm purchase. My 21st also happened to be yesterday, so I took it as a good sign.
