How I Spent My Weekend...

In and amongst the other 9 zillion things I did this weekend, I got to witness my son's MLB pitching debut:

He's got some work to do, but as the big man on the team (he's the only fifth grader, and he literally stands head and shoulders over many of his teammates), he's got the power and intimidation factor down pat. I need to hit one of the used sporting goods stores to find a catcher's mitt and a face mask, and he and I are going to practice a bunch in the backyard. Once he can channel his energy into that throw, he's going to have a fastball that no one can hit. And, failing that, he's actually got a killer sinker...

Yeah, I'm a little proud of my boy - does it show?

That is all.

Hang up a box as a strike zone for him to pitch to. If he can throw strikes, he'll win Little League.

You just wait..
I coached my youngest through a lot of his baseball years and he watched a lot of dad playing softball.
Last year we were able to play together on same team.
Yesterday at a scrimmage, he was playing shortstop, I got to play a couple of innings at 2nd (usually pitching)
Now that was cool..

Good luck to your son..

Hey Jay, I don't think you're quite to this point yet but Warren at http://www.coyoteblog.com/ has posted a couple of items about his son and getting into college baseball.

Just make sure when he goes pro he never ever plays in pinstripes.

Don't forget the jock strap. As a former catcher, let me tell you, you only make that mistake once.

Congrats Jay! Who knows, maybe he'll be a Marine someday? :)
