NRA Convention in Pictures, Part 4

Alternate title: Decidedly untactical. Not all the firearms at the NRA Convention were plastic fantastic duty pistols, AR-15s, or 1911. Some harkened back to a different time - and some actually were from a different time. Here are some of the front-stuffers at the meeting:

Long rifle

This was was just plain gorgeous. There's a level of craftsmanship and pride in one's product that is rare to find today.

Closeup

A rare second shot of a firearm. This gun was so gorgeous that I needed to get a closeup of the scrollwork and tiger striped wood...

Duelies

One thing about this set of dueling pistols that was pointed out? The distinct lack of a ramrod. These were pistols designed to be fired once and only once.

Serious stabby

Man, I lurve me a long bayonet...

McArthur Flintlock

The one next to this one in the showcase had two barrels, as was common in the days when it could take up to 20 seconds to load a sidearm - showing that even in the early days folks saw the need for extra capacity.

PICTURE TITLE

Yeah, pocket guns are a new phenomenon, aren't they?

Stay tuned for tomorrow's NRA Convention pictures, which are a little newer than these guns - but not much - and just as beautiful...

That is all.

Jay,

Color me stupid , but without a ramrod, they appear to be designed never to be fired. You still need to tamp the charge and ball to make boom sound correct?

Anon,

I'm not certain who made those - they were part of a raffle for the NMLRA booth.

Gerry,

The idea was that the guns would both be loaded before hand - using a separate ramrod - and could not be reloaded during the duel...

$525 for a Pedersoli derringer? Gah; I remember when their KITS were going for $45 a pop.

Shoulda bought a semi-trailer load of them in the 1980s........
