Putting Things in Perspective...

Sometimes, you realize that there's something more important out there. I just logged into Facebook to find out that a friend of mine stationed in Kabul came under attack yesterday. He's fine, his position is stable, but he said this and it about broke my heart:
It would've been nice to have seen my boys blow out their candles instead of manning a fighting position.
I am able to do this - attend the NRA convention, write about it on the internet, etc. because of men like my friend. He's putting his life on the line halfway across the world while he misses his kids's birthday, so that I can continue to enjoy my freedom. Words can't express how grateful I am that he and others like him exist and are willing to stand in harm's way so that I can continue to bloviate online about whatever crosses into my brain.

Stay safe, Marine.

That is all.

I'm sure you've heard this quote before from Winston Churchill or George Orwell or whomever: “We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us.”

Freedom isn't free, is it Jay?

Good to know he is safe, and I will think all good things for him. My thanks to folks who provide protection for our freedoms...
