WCS* Wish List

*Worst Case Scenario, i.e. Obama steals enough votes cheats wins November 4th.

I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel, but I can distinctly hear the fat lady warming up in the wings. Barring some miraculous outbreak of, you know, actual fairness and real journalism (not bloodly likely), it appears that Barack "ACORN" Obama will be our next president.

Given that the Senate and House will most likely not only stay in Democratic control, but become even more further such entrenched, it's time to start thinking about the Wish List. The Firearm Acquisition Wish List. With Barack "Bring Back The Assault Weapon Ban" Obama wielding the Executive Order pen, Nancy "Botox" Pelosi riding herd over Congress and Harry "Deer in the headlights" Reid in the Senate, I think we can safely count on a return to the bad ol' Clinton years of persecution of lawful gun owners.

The most visible target, IMHO, is the Assault Weapon Ban. Some version thereof has been filed every year since the original expired, and handing full control of the government to the Socialist bastards who pioneered gun grabbing is only going to empower them to push the envelope. I think a renewed, non-expiring, and further-reaching ban is not merely a possibility, but a foregone conclusion.

Therefore... It's time to make a list and check it twice. This will be a tiered list, with the most important first and heading downwards from there. The first tier will be the absolute must-haves; the second list to be filled only when all items on the first list acquired; and the third list to be started after the second, although the second list need not be filled to start the third...

All guns to be purchased from a licensed dealer with full paperwork - I am not entirely convinced that they won't try some sort of confiscation this time. After the travesty of New Orleans, where the "law" went door-to-door taking people's lawfully owned weapons away - and nary a single jackbooted thug was challenged - I fear they've developed a taste for confiscation. If so, they'll get these guns. At a price - well above market value...

Top Tier: Most important.

AR-15 variant. From what I've heard, Bushmaster makes a decent rifle. Since I'm in MA, where the original AWB still applies, I'll have to forgo the bayonet lug, collapsible stock, etc. Expected cost: $800 - $1200. 6-12 pre-ban 30 round magazines, est. $120 - $250.

Semi-auto AK-47 clone. Most likely a converted high-cap WASR-10 or SAR-1 if I can find one. Expected cost: $400 - $500. 6 pre-ban 30-round magazines, est. $100.

Really, these are the only two firearms that I really need to get before any sort of ban were in place. I've got plenty of pistols, and "high-capacity" magazines, at least enough for what I want.

Second Tier: Still important, but 1st tier to be filled first.

Bolt-action .50 BMG rifle, a la Serbu. If the AWB doesn't happen, they'll push for the .50 cal to become an NFA item. Est. $2,000.

Additional SKS. Two. One will remain in cosmolene. Est. $200 each, $400 total.

Glock 17. Good to have at least one high-capacity polymer 9mm. $450 est. Add in 4-6 pre-ban 17 round magazines, $100-$120.

Semi-auto .308. FN/FAL, M1A, AR-10, etc. This one should be further down the list than it is, since I have the VEPR, but a magazine-fed semi-auto firearm with only one five-round magazine isn't the most effective battle rifle. The Saiga-308 would be the best option, starting at ~ $400; the M1A the most elegant, but also the most expensive, around $1200 - $1500. Plus 6-8 magazines for whichever option is chosen.

Saiga-12. With as many 8 round magazines as I can find.

M1 Carbine. Manufacturer irrelevant. Already have a boatload of absolute pre-ban magazines. Est. $500.

Third Tier. Everything else.

More high capacity 9mm pistols - Beretta 92, S&W Model 59, etc. Plus magazines for each.

Factory 12 gauge pump-action shotgun with 8-round magazine.

Duplicate AR-15/AK-47 clone - following the "two is one, one is none" principle.

Extra "large capacity" magazines for every semi-automatic firearm I own, and a handful of mags for guns I don't own but might conceivably come across in the future.

Ammo. Lots and lots and lots of ammo...

Well, that's all I can come up for now. I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few evil rifles and/or pistols that the gun-grabbing a-holes want to ban; please feel free to suggest your own favorite EBR or pistol you think might be banned and should therefore make the list...

That is all.

Check "Cheaper Than Dirt" for used IDF AR mags. I have 3 and they're definitely worth the money!

You might want to buy an extra lower or six. I'm happy with my Superior Arms lower, very nice trigger adjustment.

Good Luck!

I think that you have it about right. Now is NOT the time to drop $10K on a class III RR, as at the moment that Congress disallows transfers, the value is zero. I like aimed SA fire anyway.

The comment above is good. With good lowers in the $100 range, now might be the time to buy 5-10 (if you can afford it). Also, Serbu will sell you a .50 receiver for around $495 that you can build up at your leisure.

Ammo is going to be horrendously expensive if the WCS comes to pass as EVERYBODY will be looking for their "10K per weapon". I am far lower than I want to be, but I can't afford a cup of coffee, let alone a pallet of ammo right now. 5.56 is ridiculous anyway. Right now, the only deal is in 5.45x39 (oddly). Thank goodness that I have two hungry 74's.

My list is:
- Serbu .50 lower
- FAL
- a gazillion mags for everything
- ammo
- gold

Use it or lose it.

Andrew -
Drop the 10K on suppressors instead...

Red,

CTD won't ship magazines to MA. Of any kind. Not even perfectly legal 10-rounders.

It's a good thing I have contacts in Free America, though. Might have to go in with someone (cough, cough, BRUUUUUCE???) on some ammo as well...

andrew,

I think what I'll do is pick up one complete AR-15 and at least one or two receivers. Get that and another AK clone, that's less than $2K outlay.

Leaves lots of room for ammo and magazines...

The .50 is a great idea, but I think just too expensive. While I'd like to have one, if I'm going to drop $2-$3 K on a rifle, I might as well go another couple grand and get something in the Class III world...

emdfl,

Heh. I'm thinking that the BBT is going to be making significantly more stops at Casa del G. between Nov. 4 and 1/21/09...

Bravocompanyusa.com usually has some great deals on AR mags as well as other accessories.

This is when you evaluate the dollar...

Is it better to max out a credit card with gold, silver, guns and ammo. Figuring in 5 yrs, you'll be spending $500 on a Big Mac.

Or pinch and save?

Jay,
Can you expand on how you came up with your target mag quantities? Just curious about your thinkin'.

M-14 Carbine Is my #1 on the list after my soopersecrit plan to get my Kahr PM45 comes to fuition.

As many 20 round mags as I can afford, and really bite the bullet and get a SHITLOAD of military 7.62X51mm.

brass,

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check out that site later (read: from home) when I can peruse at my leisure...

The Saj,

That's an age-old question. Do I put my money into durable goods and pray for collapse, or get as much liquid as possible to ride it out?

Wish I knew the answer. I could afford a lot of ammo if I did... ;)

wally,

No particular magic to the mag levels - just as much as ~ $100 will buy.

IMHO, you need a bare minimum of 4 magazines per weapon so fed. There are limited exceptions, of course; in my armory, frex, there's three guns off the bat that don't meet this minimum:

P3AT: I don't shoot it all that much when I take it to the range, so three mags is plenty (one in the gun, one spare mag to carry, and one extra to rotate).

Saiga-20: Given that the mags are like $40, I bought one extra for a total of 3, and don't plan on getting any more.

VEPR-308: If I could *FIND* extra magazines for sale *ANYWHERE*, I would pay quite a fair amount for a spare...

weer'd:

You gettin' your green card? Isn't the M-14 the select-fire variant of M1A?

;)

Traditionalist prefer to call their M1As: M14s. It sounds cooler. Go ahead and call your AR types M16s if you want to, too.

Why stop there?

The things coming under a (shudder) Obama Administration with a filibuster-proof Senate and House will be nothing short of cataclysmic:

1) Fairness Doctrine will end talk radio, Fox News, conservative blogs, et al. -- all done under the guise of "protecting the people from racism". Fairness Doctrine will make it unprofitable to air conservative radio shows, so Rush's affiliates list will shrink to the few stations who can afford the regulations. Famous conservative blogs will be consistently sued unto destitution.

2) The kissin' cousins of the "Fairness Doctrine" will be new hate-speech laws. Individual citizens will be prosecuted for criticizing Obama and our new Democrat Overlords. The Dems lost control of the airwaves, and couldn't regulate the internet as it rose through the 90s -- they won't let those get away from them again.

3) Progressive taxation that would make Che Guevara blush. Money from the rich, money to buy votes, money for the UN, money for ACORN, et al. Jack the capital gains tax, jack the marginal rates, etc. Oh, and the Internet will be taxed, too. Not just a sales tax, but a USAGE tax.

4) New "Main Street Bailout" -- after all, George Bush "bailed out his Wall Street buddies", the story will go, so now we need to bail out the average American voter. George Bush's ill-advised socialization of Wall Street will be met with more socialization - of Main Street.

5) New UN and International "review" of American elections. Think it can't get worse than ACORN. Oh, just wait until "non partisan UN poll watchers" get to work on us. Again, we can thank George Bush for the precedent - UN poll-watchers were in Florida in 2004, requested by Democrats, agreed to by Colin Powell, and blessed by GWB himself.

6) New international regulation of US finance and taxes. The EU forces low-taxation members to hike their tax rates or face sanctions (cough cough, Ireland). They will argue that evil cowboy capitalists caused the global meltdown, so, since they've been hurt, they're entitled to have a hand in "managing" our economy.

7) Oh, and all these nifty guns we have -- those will be hood ornaments by the time the Obama courts are done with us. Ever hear of Carver, Mass?

Internationally, look for a repeat of the Clinton years, wherein enemies of America and the scum of the earth will be ascendant. Iran will get nukes. North Korea will get nukes. Venezuela will get nukes. Brazil will get nukes. All part of the Dems' dream of a "multi polar world" where America is no longer a superpower. Every single military program will be slashed; proposed programs will not be funded. Missile Defense will be scrapped, with the assurance that "it never worked anyway", even though it does.

But maybe I'm just being pessimistic.

Jay, Don't you think there are more important issues on the agenda than guns? Obama promised some serious things: 1. to implement a concrete withdrawal plan for Iraq, 2. to reduce taxes for regular folks, 3. to provide health care for all, just to name a few that should rank higher than guns. What do you think? I doubt if he can do those three things completely, but I think it's the right direction.

Good luck find an M1 carbine for $500.00. Wish to heck I'd bought a case of them back when they were $39.95.

mike,

There's plenty of other issues, but I can at least do something about what Obama's going to do to my 2A rights.

A question for you, though. How, praytell, is Obama actually going to "reduce taxes for regular folks", given the billions and billions of new spending he's proposing, including that shiny "health care for everyone" bit?

Bill Clinton promised us both those things, and I don't recall him delivering either...

emdfl,

Check out OCMP. They've got rack-grade M1 carbines for well under $500 each.

Mike W. said...

"2. to reduce taxes for regular folks, 3. to provide health care for all."

Mike - The fact that Obama is promising both of these things should tell you he's full of shit.
