The lovely and talented Mrs. Dragon put her Executive Assistant skills to use for me about 12 weeks ago, trying to contact prop masters at various TV studios, and some actors/actresses directly. She got through to the prop master for NCIS, and about three weeks ago I sent them a FlatJack for a female actress who was complaining that all the holsters made the butt of the gun stick out or dig into her ribs.Yes. Dragon Leatherworks is now the supplier of this:
Long story short, the director loved the FlatJack, the actress could wear a blazer-type kacket and not print...all was right with the world.
I got a call from the prop master on Thursday with a special order. It was built yesterday, and shipped this morning. If either of you know the show, there is a goth girl character on it...and this is called for in the script for said character....a goth-themed lunchbox. :-)
Abby's Leather Box
Dennis is going to keep us posted on when the episode will air. This is big - I might have to actually watch television for this! Big time congratulations to Dennis and Dragon Leatherworks! NCIS! That's serious big time!
Just think - we can all say we knew him when!
That is all.

I'll have to look for it...that one is one of the few guilty pleasures I have with the TV. Plots are often contrived & simplistic, and the standard is to have an odd twist & wrap everything neatly up in the last five minutes. Being a prosecutor, armorer, & LEFI this show often gives me multiple WTF moments...but it is fiction. And, there are reasons it remains a #1 show.
Read up on the staff; Mr. McCallum has studied forensics to the point that he is a guest speaker at seminars for real forensic scientists, and Ms. Perrette had undergrad degrees in criminal science and started a graduate program in the same. They bring some good background to their characters often not found in their profession today.
We may not agree with the public personas of the actors, but some of the characters were cast very, very well. As long as the show has been running the character development & interaction continues to be a strong draw.
Dennis does good work, and someone in props for NCIS obviously knows it.
NCIS is one of the only shows I'll regularly make time for, and Abby is a favorite character.
Congrats to Dragon Leatherworks for finding a GREAT outlet for their work. Getting exposure like that is priceless, and I certainly hope he is able to capitalize on the exposure.
If Abby was real my wife would be worried :) This is hopefully a great opportunity for Dennis; he needs to make sure he has a webpage set up for "Abby
s Lunchbox" ready to go when it airs, and we'll need to get it to the top of the searches because plenty of people are going to want this!
What a great story! And what a great opportunity for their product line! I suspect he may have to place a larger leather order next time. :)
NCIS is one of my guilty pleasures as well . . . . though I never really feel all that guilty taking the time to watch it! :)
Awesome! NCIS is one of the few tv shows I'll happily sit and watch without doing something else at the same time (Doctor Who is the other big one). I'll have to find it on purpose just to see this.
NCIS is one of the few "Cop" shows I can stand to watch. So hopefully this is a sign of things to come. CongratZ Dennis.
Congratulations to Dennis for breaking into showbiz. I hope it leads to much more success.
But I'm glad I already got my Chimaera when I did. Hollywood isn't shy about demanding (and paying for) rush jobs.
I call it "The Abby Show" anyway!
I LOVE NCIS! Not for all the Gunnie Goodness, but for the fact that they tend to ensure that the U.S. Military gets treated with Respect and Dignity (if they aren't this week's Bad Guys, I mean). And it's Spin-Off, NCIS: Los Angeles is good also. So Glad Dennis got the Work. He won't be able to Retire off Hollywood, but he should get some Gigs every now and then.
NICE .. I like NCIS (and particularly Abby) too.
Hey all!
Thanks for the kind words!
Some folks had been asking for details, so here goes:
Started working on it at 0900 Sunday, took the pictures 0100 Monday. 16 hours of straight work, lots of coffee, and eating meals in the shop while working.
Had to mold the panels out of Kydex first, then cover/laminate them with the leathers. (There's no way I could have a leather box this large hold this shape without a support structure...especially on a studio set where it has to endure some abuse).
Each jig/mold for the kydex had to be built also, before trying to mold the parts.
To be fair, I spent Saturday doing the math, sketching the product, figuring the sizes of the panels, etc.
Then it was *nose to the grindstone* and just do it.
And cross my fingers. :-)
The Smarter Half LOVES Mark Harmon (and I'm rather fond of both Miss Perrette and Miss de Pablo) so NCIS is must see TV in our house.
Just thinking of molding leather to fit Ziva's hips ... Oh! Sorry. I went away for a while.
I see a great demand for Abby's Lunch Box.
And what a selling point for Dennis' products. Way to go!!
my inner teenager is going bonkers over this. Dennis, what's the interior look like?
Hey Laura!
The interior of this one is unfinished Kydex, as the prop master didn't indicate that it would have interior shots.
That being said, I've already laid out two interiors for potential sales...one is an insulated kydex insert (to help keep hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold) for lunchbox version, and another is a foam/cushioned interior covered in satin, silk, or sateen so as to make it a Goth-themed oversized clutch.
The measurements of the unit, BTW, are 8" diameter and 12" long.

Nice! NCIS is one of my favorite shows!

Hefty. Heck, that's almost a range bag!
Hmmm....
Time to start hitting "refresh" on Dennis' web site again.
Dennis, thanks for the info. :) will have to keep that in mind if i decide to scratch the gothy itch again.
