A Bacon-Fueled Hog...

My brother-from-another-mother Mopar hipped me to this last night on Facebook. I am officially agog.

Driven By Bacon
We built the world's first bacon fueled motorcycle. Because we are #DrivenByBacon.
They built a motorcycle.

With a diesel engine.

That runs on bacon grease.

(bonus points if you heard that as "You built a time machine? Out of a DeLorean?")

It's a good lookin' bike, too:

Why can't I get this out of my head:

Diesel motorcycle. Whatever will they think of next? Apparently they've been around for about a decade now, so it's not brand new, but pretty recent. If I were a betting man, I'd say that motorcycles are generally so good on gas that the ROI on a diesel engine isn't great enough to warrant much investment.

Although I do really like their graphic on how the bike is fueled...

That is all.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Brad_in_MA sends in the downer story of the day...

US Bacon Prices Rise After Virus Kills Baby Pigs
A virus never before seen in the U.S. has killed millions of baby pigs in less than a year, and with little known about how it spreads or how to stop it, it's threatening pork production and pushing up prices by 10 percent or more.

Scientists think porcine epidemic diarrhea, which does not infect humans or other animals, came from China, but they don't know how it got into the country or spread to 27 states since last May. The federal government is looking into how such viruses might spread, while the pork industry, wary of future outbreaks, has committed $1.7 million to research the disease.
Bacon prices are on the rise?

That's all I have to say about that...

That is all.

A Reason To Visit Chicago?

Stretch sends this in. If there is a reason to visit Chicago (aside from the Museum of Science and Industry, which is pretty darn cool), this is it:

Burke's Bacon Bar, New Chicago Restaurant, Serves Only Sandwiches With Bacon In Them
Chef David Burke is known as one of the country's most innovative chefs; he's been credited with inventing salmon pastrami, cheesecake lollipops and (implausibly) tuna tartare. His latest endeavor isn't quite as groundbreaking as all that -- but it's still pretty epic.

This week, the chef opened a new restaurant called Burke's Bacon Bar in Chicago's River North neighborhood, which is as close to an all-bacon restaurant as ever opened in the United States.
They even have bacon desserts. I'm not certain that it would be worth braving Chicago just for a meal composed entirely of bacon, but it's way ahead of any other reason to visit the Windy City. I do, however, fully support this idea taking off, with the understanding that it become a chain similar to McDonalds. If there's anything that could improve the image of the United States abroad, it would be a chain of all-bacon restaurants...

Mmmmm. Baaaaacon...

The Best Part of Waking Up...

...Is waking up to fresh bacon, of course! Stretch sends in the greatest alarm clock in the world:

Wake’n Bacon – The Real Bacon Alarm Clock
Quite possibly the best invention since whatever came before sliced bread, the Wake’n Bacon alarm clock is a work of pure genius. The shape of the device is modeled after pre-bacon and the concept is so simple I can’t believe it’s not already in mass production. You simply place a piece of frozen bacon in the alarm clock when you go to sleep and set the clock. 10 minutes before you’re wake-up time the clock starts cooking your bacon and you are awakened to the smell of bacony goodness.
To quote Homer: "Mmmmmm. Baaaaacon"...

So, Who's Going To Iowa?

Thousands gather in Iowa for annual bacon festival
DES MOINES, Iowa – The smell of bacon was in the air Saturday as thousands converged on Iowa's capital city for an increasingly popular festival celebrating all things connected with the meat.

Some people wore Viking hats and others walked around with makeshift snouts for the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival. The annual event featured more than 10,000 pounds of bacon served in unusual ways, such as chocolate-dipped bacon and bacon-flavored cupcakes and gelato.

I think I speak for everyone when I say:

They also mention a bacon eating contest. I am pretty sure I could win that.

That is all.

Mmmm... Baaaacon....

So I'm in the shower this morning, getting ready for the day, when it strikes me that the sound of the water hitting the floor of the shower sounds a bit like bacon frying.
First thought: Mmmmm. Baaaaacon.

Second thought: BUGS!

Yeah, my thought processes are a bit like free-form jazz, thanks for asking...

Holy Quadruple Bypass Batman!

Stretch sends in this bit of culinary seppuku:

Heart Attack Log

Picture taken from here - go and check out how it's created, too!

It's a hot dog wrapped in meatloaf with cheese and a bacon weave wrap. There's even instructions at the link. I tried to figure out how many calories were in this monstrosity, and it broke my calculator. It only needs to be smothered in nacho cheese and jalapenos to be perfect.

Glad I didn't see this before lunch!

Lunchtime Yums...

Just to make you hungry:

BACON LT

That's the granddaddy of all BLTs right there - it's made with bacon from a local farm (in the words of Brad_in_ma, who kindly provided the bacon: "You could have petted that pig a week or two ago"). Not only is the bacon fresh, but the bread is homemade - that's some of Mom G.'s world famous homemade bread, toasted and providing the starchy foundation upon which to build the perfect bacon, lettuce, and tomato sammich.

And now that you're all hungry and droolin', go have lunch...

That is all.

One Coronary Burger, Please...

Commenter "stretch" sent me this delicious link:

The Great Bacon Odyssey: Bacon, the Other Crispy Brown Meat
It’s important to pace yourself when on a geek quest of any sort, and this is especially true of those that, like mine, present a certain amount of personal risk. Having last week eaten a (beef) hamburger wrapped in 10 slices of (pork) bacon, I felt it wise to wait a week before attempting another such feat of consumption.

I had read online about several people, over the past five years or so, trying their hand at a burger made out of ground bacon, with no other meat included. I hadn’t intended to try it until later in my Great Bacon Odyssey, but several people suggested it after last week’s triumph, so I started thinking about it more and more. Then it occurred to me: In order to be truly worthy of me, and of the GeekDad name that means so much to me, my quest would have to take me beyond what other people have already done. And to make that possible, I would first have to prove that I was serious. I would have to conquer the bacon burger.

Here it is in all it's greasy glory:

All you need to do is fry up a few extra strips and you could have a bacon baconburger - just the perfect thing to serve to The World's Most Dangerous Librarian with a shot of bacon vodka...

That is all.

Sunday Morning...

Enjoying a (somewhat) lazy Sunday morning before the insanity of the week begins anew. In a few moments we'll be out the door to run errands, four or five stops to make to pick up things we need for the week, items we need for our upcoming vacation, and something for a birthday party this afternoon (never put off until tomorrow what you can put off until next week, that's the G. family motto).

But right now we're all in our PJs, coffee is brewing, and there's bacon on the griddle. Life is good.

That is all.

The Ideal Juxtaposition!

Bacon Flavored Ice Cream Sizzles For Business
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- From bacon shakes to beer flavored ice cream, wacky flavors are proving to be a crowd favorite.

For Moo Creamery in the southwest, experimenting with different flavors has worked out in their favor.

Mmmm. Bacon shakes... [drooool]

I love this part:
"A friend of mine loves bacon on everything, so she had asked me to make bacon ice cream. So I had a home ice cream maker and I made it and thought it was a terrible idea. So she had me try it and after three days of tasting it I finally thought it was good," said Pounds.

I'm guessing that Pounds (talk about the holy mother of all ironic names!) experimented for three days until she got the desired taste. The way it's written, though, it gives the impression that she sat there eating bacon-flavored ice cream until she liked it. Which I am totally cool with...

Bacon-flavored ice cream - perfect for the bacone.
