I find it interesting that MA - home of some of the toughest gun laws in the country, has as many machine guns as they do. CA is no surprise when you consider the size of the state and Hollywood. The real surprise is CT - the only thing I can figure is that Colt must have had some sort of deal going with their employees in 1986 right before the Hughes Amendment. The other surprising one is Maryland - not exactly a pro-gun state; I wonder if Beretta has anything to do with that.

And the winner? Virginia, of all places. 24,551 registered machine guns in the Old Dominion, more than 1800 more than the next closest state (Florida, home Mr. NoPants). The state with the lowest number would be Delaware, home of Joe Biden so I guess no surprise there (it's hard to have a fully automatic double barrel shotgun...) I'd be curious to follow where they got their numbers, as I assume that law enforcement machine guns must figure into the equation - several states listed as having registered machine guns don't permit their citizens to own them...

And we all know that Wally is the reason Maine is so blue...
