Workin' Towards Double Digits...

1 dead, one injured in Miami Burger King shooting
Police said a man wearing a ski mask walked into the store at Biscayne Boulevard and 54th Street and demanded money from a clerk.

A customer, who has a concealed weapons permit, pulled a gun, said Officer Jeff Giordano, a Miami police spokesman.

The customer and robber exchanged fire.

The robber was shot dead at the scene.

{sniff}{sniff} I just love a story with a happy ending, don't you? Sadly, the good Samaritan was wounded in the exchange, but is expected to survive. No word on whether or not he will be charged, but given that it's Florida, home of "Stand your ground", it's rather doubtful. With any kind of luck, he'll even get his piece back before he's released from the hospital.

As it damn well should be.

Good guys: 1. Goblins: room temperature.

Dead goblin count: 8

That is all.

Thanks to commenter wolfwalker for the link. (Far too infrequent) commenter and very good friend sci-fi also sent me the link in an e-mail...

JD, The Burger King thing is proof of nothing. If no one had intervened and they gave the robber the money, would ANYONE have been shot?

Bob,

No kidding. That pore unfortunate goblin, if only the CCW hadn't challenged him he wouldn't have been forced to start shooting indiscriminantly...

Mrs. S.,

Hey, I went with the name on the e-mail... ;)

Thanks for sending it along regardless...

Bob S. Yeah, like it's really a good idea to let your life hinge on the good graces of the guy who's robbing you and has a gun pointed at your chest.

I really hate the whole "just give up the cash" argument.

Wasn't it Heinlein who said "never appeal to a mans better nature, he might not have one?"
